Flipping pigeons (aka roller pigeons)

I think they do this for protection, like evading a predatory hawk or other predators.

roller pigeons. i was gifted a pair. by the end of the year I had over 40..lols..they mature and breed like rats if taken well care of...lols i gave them away to a pigeon enthusiast. they flip or row due to a genetic deformity according to many expert pigeon enthusiasts. so how often do breeders of any creatures actually want to breed creatures with the most deform genes..lols oh Im talking about the air rollers..the ground rollers/flippers are call tumblers I believe. some of the air rollers can make 50-100 flips depending how high up in the air they are and ending their life once they hit the ground..those they call suicide rollers...talk about genetic malfunction..h aha

Lol.

What's in their genes passes down to their descendants, huh?

I've not seen one roll all the way to the ground to its death. But I did see one roll and hit a power pole and had severe inuries..what really causes them to flip is widely inconclusive. I had a friend who was big on raising these rollers. I also had some they called the high flyers..these pigeons would fly out to space if they could...lols they like to fly way up there and just kind of soar around for hours. A pigeon hobbyist told me these type of pigeons either bring you good or bad fortune because you never know what they bring back from the high skies..haha either way I got rid of them because I always been afraid of heights so i think they will bring me more bad luck than good..actually I just get an uneasy feeling they are so high up to where you can barely see them flying..i guess too high up for my comfort..haha

They serve as aesthetics, I think.

I think, too, that flying high just brings in good luck.
It's low-flying that might be bad luck.

But that's my thinking.

I think flipping helps them escape eagle grabs or
something. But probably not for long. It's good there
are so many of them so that they won't go extinct.

This one could have flipped to fly the other way so the hawk
wouldn't catch up to it.

I think these stud pigeons are just showing off to the girl pigeons...  :2funny: :2funny:

Personally, I know a Hmong guy that raises these pigeons for competition.

Likely. Actions showing heroism or extreme ability do excite the opposite sex. Just look at the birds of paradise. They dance and built nests to get the chicks to mate with them.
