Title: 401K
Post by: lexicon on June 28, 2022, 10:30:25 AM
Everyone still doing good?

No hypotheticals. Just thinking about my current losses and whether or not to maintain my current contributions.

everything is down these days
you are not the only one..

give us a little background
is your employer contributing matching??  4-6% whatever your workplace offer

for example:

if they matching 6% up to 100%...
for every $500 you put in, they match it $500  = $1000
that's a 100% gain easy no effort
i take that all day....

also look at what your 401k investment are
by default... it should just be a target date index
see what your HUman resource financial guy is
sometimes they outsource it to 3rd party

it's all YMMV

the route has always been:

i wrote it in the investment section..

step 1:    401k matching 4-6% whatever your companies is matching
step 2:    $6k roth ira for you, $6k roth ira for your nonworking/working spouse= $12k
step 3:     go back step 1 and max our your 401k ... it's $20,500

step two   $12k is already hard enough for alot of folks already

Keep it going... the market will swing back up before you retired.
I don't check mine that often because I'm in it for the long run and still many many years before I retire.

Matching 6%. I'm putting 9%.

I usually reach my max out point by Sept of every year... I'm at 17% currently and set it up to increase 1%/yr.

You need to check what kinda of investment you have in your 401k
Lol…. You might have crypto in your 401k
Some 401k allow you to go into sections like oil and tech
Or have high risk investment

Alot if them just offer target date index

Check with your Human Resources

You shouldn’t be down more than 20-30%
Thats if you just go passive market index

If you are crypto they are like 70-80%

Yes…

401k has contributions cap limited
Its $20500 for this year

Just estimating… asumming 0% match

You need a income of $100,000 at 20% to hit that $20500 limit
Because you say you cap it out by SEP.
You must be making $200k+*

 ;D ;D ;D

We know you like to make up shyt into existence

hmooboob, how much I'm making if my company max mine for free?  I don't put anything into it but the company does so it is already 100% for me at the start.  No lost when you play with house money.  O0

You haven’t lost anything yet and what you are contributing now will equate to bigger profits when the bull runs again. I may be down 20+% now but over all, I’m still ahead.

You working in the wrong place bra.  You missing out big time.   Here are some more companies that has a good 401k program for you.  Ride with the best or sit on the sidelines and see PH millionaires and get thirsty.   :2funny:

General Motors

An automaker that once filed for bankruptcy might not seem like a good candidate to offer competitive employee benefits, but General Motors does just that. Its 401(k) plan provides employees with both a match and GM retirement contributions. According to one employee on Glassdoor, you receive a 3% base contribution plus GM matches up to 4% on top of that
