Title: hiking(enjoying god's gift)
Post by: Mr_Mechanic on April 15, 2020, 02:35:32 PM
I was cruising through youtube the other day and stumble upon a guy who went down to Chile and hike the Torres del paine.  The sceneries was breath taking.  Then I got to thinking, why can I do something like that.  A guy like me, whose in his 40, should be able to do it.  Then, I got very interested and look at more hiking videos.  Have always love and enjoy the outdoors.  Came upon a guy who hike the pacific crest trail.  He was telling how he got the motivation to do such.  And it was through Bear Gryills, Men vs Wild.  Then I was thinking, shoot, I was probably watch that show before he did.

After that.....my videos of hiking all of the sudden turn into encountering cougar's (no, not the ones that walk on 2 legs), mountain lions.  After a few videos of mountain lions, my motivation kind of stop.

But, I think I'm going to do it one day.  Baby steps at a time.  In the end, I hope to reach my destination.  Whatever that maybe.

We only have a short time on earth, do it before it is too late or too old. There is a Hmong guy(FB) who has done the PCT, CDT, ECT trails a few times. He’ve hiked over 25K miles. Very impressive if true.

Who says you hike without weapons on you? Take along a S&W Governor and no mountain lion will dare touch you.

There's a guy who canoed down the Mississippi River. He says there are lots of snakes in that river--big and small. But he's written a book on that trip.

Another chick studied just frogs in Minnesota. She became famous on a radio show.

Another guy got his Ph.D. in the subject of mushrooms.

Etc.

yog.  I agree.

I suppose.  But then again....what about the spiritual side of things?

Each time you eat, just offer them a spoonful of a mixed of the things you eat and tell them to protect you while you’re there. Also call on your ancestors for protection and offer them a second spoonful.

If you are Christian, still offer the spirits of the land you’re on the spoonful but also pray to God or Jesus for protection.

Your words do not have to be eloquent like done by those practiced experts.

My elders used condensed milk cans for that. But I've used bamboo and wooden sticks for my lines.

My grandfathers from both sides used other methods with no hooks but just to pull the fishes out from the water the minute the fishes took hold of the bait.

I think those of us that have had to really survive in Laos don't panic as much as the spoiled gens here...I used this method when we first arrived to America and was too poor to buy rod and reel (including turning the tab to a hook)  ;D O0:
