While in London last weekend because my son was running in the London Marathon, we saw a blind person running in the London marathon. The blind person ran locked elbow with another runner. It goes to show that we all have too many excuses for why we can't while this person found all the reasons why he could.

I used many of Ashida Kim's Zen stories in my book.  I asked for permission from Mr. Kim. All the great stories help us to understanding happiness in our life's journey.  For in happiness, we give ourselves to the world and ask for nothing.  In our unhappiness, we take everything from the world and our unhappiness radiates into the world.  One of my favorite that I used was:

Ryonen's Clear Realization

The Buddhist nun known as Ryonen was born in 1797. She was a granddaughter of the famous Japanese warrior Shingen. Her poetical genius and alluring beauty were such that at seventeen she was serving the empress as one of the ladies of the court. Even at such a youthful age fame awaited her.

The beloved empress died suddenly and Ryonen's hopeful dreams vanished. She became acutely aware of the impermanency of life in this world. It was then that she desired to study Zen.

Her relatives disagreed, however, and practically forced her into marriage. With a promise that she might become a nun after she had borne three children, Ryonen assented. Before she was twenty-five she had accomplished this condition. Then her husband and relatives could no longer dissuade her from her desire. She shaved her head, took the name of Ryonen, which means to realize clearly, and started on her pilgrimage.

She came to the city of Edo and asked Tetsugyu to accept her as a disciple. At one glance the master rejected her because she was too beautiful.

Ryonen then went to another master, Hakuo. Hakuo refused her for the same reason, saying that her beauty would only make trouble.

Ryonen obtained a hot iron and placed it against her face. In a few moments her beauty had vanished forever.

Hakuo then accepted her as a disciple.

Commemorating this occasion, Ryonen wrote a poem on the back of a little mirror:

In the service of my Empress I burned incense to perfume my exquisite clothes

Now as a homeless mendicant I burn my face to enter a Zen temple.

When Ryonen was about to pass from this world, she wrote another poem:

Sixty-six times have these eyes beheld the changing scene of autumn

I have said enough about moonlight,

Ask no more.

Only listen to the voice of pines and cedars when no wind stirs.

Shout Outs & Dedications / Re: The unread letter(s)

Dear Once Upon a Summer Dream,

I never kissed or even hugged the first girl that burned a passionate and lasting hole in my heart. I met a girl a long time on the last night of the party during the 4th of July a long time ago. She came out of state and I live in Minnesota. After a few slow dances, I said she should come back next year. She said, why don't we write. A few days later, some of my friends said that they saw her at Humboldt High school with her cousins. I figured she and her cousins walked there so I went to the public housing nearby and looked for a WA state vehicle, and I found her and spent an afternoon with her and her cousins.

I told her that I would come back another day, if I could get a hug.  I was 15 years old, and was not comfortable asking for more. She followed me to the bus stop and I asked her to go back, which she did. Later on, she said she wanted to hug me then, but I was walking too fast. I never made it back because the day she left, I was out on the farm working. When I got home, my mom told me a girl called me 7 times that day.

In her first letter to me, she said, "I love you and misses you very much." We wrote each other for a year, and, all that time, I hope she would return to Minnesota. She never returned, at least in time. I still can remember the pain that little boy felt due to wanting something so much. We broke up or she ask that we break up, and what can I say. but had to agree and set her free.  When she finally graduated from high school, she wrote me to ask if I am still available. Unfortunately, at the time I was dating my future ex-wife. She soon found a very handsome and loving man and married as well, and is still happily married.

I am reminded of the quote from the movie 'Field of Dreams' that goes "We just don't recognize life's most significant moments while they're happening. Back then I thought, "Well, there'll be other days." I didn't realize that that was the only day."

If I do not enter according to my trading plan, then I am disregard sound reason and logic. If I do not follow my plan by letting my trades ride, then I am stealing from myself the full potential of a trade. If I do not exit according to my plan, then I taking too little and giving away too much, and it will show itself in my long term results.  Therefore:

1. Enter only according to my plan
2. Stay in the trade according to my plan
3. Exit only according to my plan
   a. After each exit, take a 30 minutes break before entering again

And accept all results so that I may learn to do it better going forward.

My vision and goal is to one day trade 1000 contracts regularly this way, with no expectations of results.

A goodbye from a someone who is leaving my life:

"You are the greatest thing to have happened to me during my lowest point and I will always be grateful to have shared that journey with you."

Instead of allowing our unhappiness to grind love and friendship to zero or less, we should learn to leave things so that we remember each other well for our journey in which time passes through us.

One of my favorite lines from a movie:

"How did you just become more beautiful in the last 20 seconds?" - from the movie, 'The Space Between us'

A poem shared by my amazing date last night.

I don’t love you as if you were a rose

I don’t love you as if you were a rose of salt, topaz,
or arrow of carnations that propagate fire:
I love you as one loves certain obscure things,
secretly, between the shadow and the soul.

I love you as the plant that doesn’t bloom but carries
the light of those flowers, hidden, within itself,
and thanks to your love the tight aroma that arose
from the earth lives dimly in my body.

I love you without knowing how, or when, or from where,
I love you directly without problems or pride:
I love you like this because I don’t know any other way
        to love,
except in this form in which I am not nor are you,
so close that your hand upon my chest is mine,
so close that your eyes close with my dreams.

Per the book '101 Essays that will change the way you think' by Brianna Wiest, our minds do not know the difference between right and wrong. It only knows the difference between comfortable and uncomfortable. Thus, we will reach for comfortable, even when it's wrong.

Question of the day: "Do you actually have a plan that will work when applied, or you can learn from to make it better, or are you just hoping that it will work?"
