General Discussion / Re: Trade war with China..
« on: August 28, 2019, 12:15:28 PM »
You mean like the farmers and their subsidies? Look at how it's working for them. Welfare only sounds bad if and when people want it to it appears.

China has a bigger economy and has more goods to export. Their manufacturing cost is less.

The US has less to export and their manufacturing cost is much higher.

Tariffs aren't going to solve this problem. We need China more than China needs us. Unless you're talking about debt. They hold $1.2 trillion dollars of it and could definitely use it in an all out trade war.
china is putting tariffs on our agricultural and farming because that is one their biggest imports (reason being is that our food products from crops to meat are FDA/USDA approved. due to our strict guidelines, they know they're getting good quality food).  china is merely playing tit for tat, they know if we ban food exports to china, they will be eating their own poisonous foods (abundant of swine flu, high concentration of chemically induced vegetables, polluted waters and etc).

and you're exactly right, china has bigger economy and more goods to export (thanks to america)...however, if we're not buying, they will be the one who's hurting.  we import about $550 billion of china's goods, while they're importing $180 billion from the US...that is about $370 billion in deficit.  if we shift our demands to vietnam, mexico, india and other countries (similar in cheap labors and cost effective products), plus creating our own companies, due to demands...chin a is going to be in a world of hurt, and you know...they are not going to let other countries take our business away.

china NEEDS us to buy their products!

I'm not disagreeing with you entirely. My point is how can you talk minimizing dependency on China for goods on one hand and openly sell products made in China on the other? Take off the blinders. IF Trump wants to champion this cause, STOP having China make your goods. Otherwise, it's a farce for fools.
that is what tariffs are for...we're making chinese products (imports) expensive, comparable to domestic's.  it's going to steer china's marketing strategy when americans rather buy their own products.  it could bankrupt manufacturing companies due to lack of sales and high taxes...and we're talking about billions of dollars.  from an economic stand point it is a good marketing strategy on Trump...china's dependency on US market is higher...they will eventually come to the table and find a resolution.

uhhh.. no.  appealing to ignorant people's emotions has nothing to do with reality of global economies and benefits of free trade.  People believing in these types of arguments are why economists are worried about a recession.
the recession talk is all wall street bullsh!t talk.  they're talking themselves into believing that it will happen, it is actually the opposite...our economy is doing great but the leftist narrative is trying to scare people, a democratic tactic into the 2020 presidential race...it's not going to happen anytime soon, not while trump is still president.

Look beyond the propaganda, please.

Do you know which country many Trump products are made in? Do you know which country just gave Ivanka 21 patents for goods? If this was strictly about trade deficits then what about Mexico, India and Vietnam as a viable alternative? This bullsh*t is nothing more than a show for his voter base. It's a farce. Trump isn't the business genius some people think he is.
one should look carefully, china has one propaganda and that is to rule the world.  they have bought out some african countries, built railways across countries and continents, bought and built ports all over the world, strategically building islands in the south china sea and have a buffet in every city in america!  i guarantee you, every house hold in america has something "made in china"...china has made every country dependent on their products, due to low cost and cheap labor.  what's more concerning is the amount of money they're making with very little taxation.  putting tariff on china means, domestic products will have equal share in the market, better built quality, promoting more demands, increasing domestic jobs and companies, which in turn will raise our economy.  if trump was smart, he would ban all farming and agricultural sales to china...chines e people would be force to eat their own poisonous food...they would cave in so fast.

can you count up to $530 billion?  yes, that is how much US is importing goods from China.  when we import this much goods, it makes our (american) products looks like crap and expensive...wh en actually "made in china" products are the real cheap things (poor quality).  with no tariffs imposed, it will make america more dependent on china products, hence the chinaman has been, is and will be making billions with little to no taxation.  we are china's biggest consumer, when we impose tariffs, it will hurt their economy more than ours, that is why you see china wanting to get back to talks and seek a resolution.

eating out is actually cheaper and less time consuming.  do you know how much it costs to make a bowl of pho?  i would rather pay $8 than $40-$50 (and that's on the cheap side) just to get the ingredients and save the time to make it...not to mention the clean up afterwards! ha!

Your numbers are a little wonky. But the overall numbers align with other studies and data.

As for how the Hmong population figures in all this and the figures you came up with...*shrugs*…

Not exclusive to the Hmong population, some individuals do not mind living on a minimal income. Like many I do see a very real need to fix all of our social programs.
i have no problem people relying on government assistance, however, the problem is staying and relying on it, forever (generation after generations).  understand that SNAP has an income limit, when a person who's able to make more but decides to stay under cap for the free benefits, they're setting themselves up for failure (being totally dependent on the service).  there will be no growth for that person and the family, due to limited income. they're always going to be in subsidized housing, which is often in a less desirable location to live, the ghetto (that environment creates thugs and having kids exposed to criminal activity leads them no where but back to being dependent on welfare - a repeating cycle). But what is most important to understand is, when one is heavily dependent on government assistance, they have no control over their livelihood.   the most deplorable thing is, there will be those who will abuse and/or take advantage of the system when they don't need it (*cough -hmgrock*) and that is a lot of wasted tax money.

Despite reports detailing how whites account for a large share of welfare recipients if not being the majority...jus t saying.
I would ask theking for a fact check...but he's only a FATchecker...h owever, i was able to obtain some data/info from this site: checkyourfact. com

"Whites make up the largest share of food stamps and Medicaid recipients, but as a share of the U.S. population, they utilize proportionally less than other ethnic groups.
.....
Non-Hispanic whites, however, accounted for 61 percent of the U.S. population in 2016, so they utilized food stamps proportionally less than their share of the population. Blacks made up 12 percent of the population, but 25.6 percent of all recipients in 2016. Hispanics accounted for 18 percent of the population and 17.2 percent of all recipients.
"

so in essence, we've (hmong) been here for almost half a century, when more than 50% of our people are on welfare (SNAP), and more than 50% of those 50% are young bucks like hmgrock and still living on welfare...it is a shame.

ZDN

i think you are too proud man
if our company goes bankrupt and we all get laid off

i'm filing for unemployment, healthcare, foodstamp, cash assistance, all that jazz

don't feel ashamed/lose face
that's the game, we have to play

don't hate the playerz
hate the game

sorry but i am too proud to beg.  while young, the family was on government assistance, those food stamps booklet was my ca$h money.  just because your family lived on it, doesn't mean you should either....blac k folks and those lazy folks are prime example, generations of welfare recipients and that's a shame.

it's basic economics
i've say it a lot of times before

the reason why the poor hasn't revoke and eat the rich yet
is because of government assistance

give you an scenario

exampe A:

1. low income
2. free medicaid/foodstamp/housing/etc...

 example B:

1. middle class
2. paid for your healthcare/food/housing/etc..

A=B  unless you just make a a ton of money
if you are in the lower middle class teir

than A>B
that's not economics...th at is what you called basic politics...provide just enough government assistance to keep them, not even above, but on the poverty line just to maintain their votes.  while a senator who's representing them in congress is making over 6 figures a year and still have the audacity to put in a raise for themselves, the welfare recipient is getting, on average, 10k.  you, my friend, should not become too dependent on these government assistance programs, as one day, you will have to pay it all back in the form of slavery! ha!

44
you call these arts??  oooookay.
you know he's trying to figure out the number to "tsoob koj niam" on the wall! ha!

45
sad though
many folks going be hungry
time to eat the rich?
i work everyday but i don't get to eat shrimp, steaks and lobsters, like my friends who are on government assistance.  they say they can't work, read and/or write, but can go fishing/hunting (fidn the steepest river and climb the tallest mountain range) almost everyday...the y know the rules, maps to all DNR sites.  each year when they file taxes back, they get close to $20,000 back...not only that but they also drive newer cars than i do (some even have 2-3).  Time to become a bum and live off the government! ha!
