How Much Should You Spend on a Child’s Birthday Gift When Your Kid Is Invited To Their Party?

When your young child gets invited to a classmate’s birthday party, he or she will likely be overwhelmed with excitement. Meanwhile, you can’t help but wonder, “Wow much should I spend on a gift?”

You don’t want to spend too little and have the gift reflect that you’re cheap, but you also don’t want to spend too much and risk making the birthday child’s parents (or any other parents) uncomfortable. To answer this question and find out what other points of etiquette you should brush up on before the youthful celebration, GOBankingRates consulted industry experts.

Here’s everything you need to know.

How Much You Should Logically Spend
“This is such an important question as for many years when your children are younger, this will need to be a line-item on your budget,” said nationally known etiquette expert and owner of Mannersmith, Jodi RR Smith.

“Without any information, the lazy answer is $20. But the true answer is it depends. For those with bigger budgets or in tiny social circles, the answer may be $50 or more.”

How To Discreetly Find Out How Much You Should Spend
“If you are a new parent and/or new to the school or neighborhood, ask other parents, especially those with older children,” said Smith. “The way to ask is not what they spend, but what do people usually give as gifts. If you ask a few different people, you will be able to figure out the typical spend from there and then scale up or down to match your budget. For your child’s BFF, you may spend more than for a lunchtime acquaintance.”

“When you RSVP, ask if there are any toys/gifts that are not permitted and find out what they are really into,” said Pamela Eyring, president of The Protocol School of Washington. “Think items such as Legos, bath toys or stuffed animals.”

Smith agrees that it’s a good idea to find out ahead of time what type of gift would be appropriate.

I've been there and some spots just cannot sustain fish life for very long due to lack of circulation and flow in the hot Summer months:

A race to save fish as Rio Grande dries

On a recent, scorching afternoon, off-road vehicles cruised up and down a stretch of dry riverbed where normally the Rio Grande flows. The drivers weren't thrill-seekers, but biologists hoping to save as many endangered fish as they could before the sun turned shrinking pools of water into dust.

Aaron Rodgers' heart-wrenching Packers-49ers playoff losses still haunt star

“I’m hurt by all the playoff losses,” Rodgers told NBC Sports' Peter King in the latest "Football Morning in America" column. "... The 49ers game in 2013 hurts."

That wild-card round matchup at Lambeau Field went down to the final seconds. Green Bay tied the game at 20 with 5:09 to play but never saw the football again. 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick conducted a 14-play, 65-yard drive to set up a game-winning 33-yard field goal for Phil Dawson as time expired.

It was the second consecutive year the 49ers sent Rodgers packing after a 45-31 victory the previous playoff run. San Francisco also took down the Packers in the 2019 NFC Championship Game, winning 37-20, and most recently in January by stealing another postseason tilt at the "Frozen Tundra," 13-10.

In that chilly clash, Rodgers was widely criticized for targeting star receiver Davante Adams deep down the field in double coverage on a crucial third-and-11 late in the game. The pass fell incomplete, and the Packers punted to ball to San Francisco only to watch Jimmy Garoppolo march down the field and set up a game-winning field goal for Robbie Gould.

That play still haunts the Packers' star quarterback.

“Of course,” Rodgers told King when asked if that incompletion sticks with him. “You think about all those plays from all the years. Never goes away. Doesn’t mean that you dwell on them or you can’t get past them. You’re a competitor, you remember maybe the failures more than the successes. I think that’s just a part of loving to compete and hating to lose maybe more than you love to win."

As far as what Rodgers ranks as the worst playoff losses of his career, the 49ers' division rival wears that crown.

"When you think about the worst losses in your career, I mean both of them were in Seattle -- the 'Fail Mary' game in 2012, NFC Championship in the ’14 season," Rodgers said. "But they all stick with you, because you think about what you could’ve done better. Plays you should’ve made."

4 riding in golf cart killed in crash at Texas intersection
GALVESTON, Texas (AP) — Four people riding in a golf cart were killed — including two juveniles — when an allegedly intoxicated man driving an SUV ran a stop sign at an intersection in Southeast Texas, police said. Miguel Espinoza, 45, has been charged with four counts of intoxication manslaughter in the crash about 11:30 p.m. Saturday in Galveston, roughly 50 miles (80 kilometers) southeast of Houston, police said. Espinoza was being held in Galveston County jail Sunday on $400,000 bond, police said. Jail records did not list an attorney for him. Galveston police Sgt. Derek Gaspard said that after the SUV failed to stop, it struck a pickup truck, which then crashed into the golf cart that had six people aboard. He said that the golf cart and pickup were traveling in opposite directions through the intersection on a street that did not have a stop sign.

$15 French Fries and $18 Sandwiches: Inflation Hits New York
As food prices rise at the fastest rate in decades, it’s become more expensive to eat and drink in New York City.

This was supposed to be a summer of long-awaited celebrations in New York City, the return of a packed calendar full of birthday dinners and happy hours. But New Yorkers are confronting sticker shock everywhere they look, whether they’re shopping for barbecue supplies at the grocery store, ordering a beer after work or grabbing a late-night slice of pizza.

While rent and the cost of Uber trips have reached eye-popping levels, rising food prices are among the most painful results of inflation. In May, food prices in the New York City area rose at their fastest annual pace since 1981, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. The effects have been especially visible throughout the city — everybody has to eat.

The increase slowed in June, the most recent inflation report showed, but food prices were still 9.1 percent higher than a year earlier in New York and 10.4 percent higher nationwide.

Single people in the Philippines to receive scholarships, subsidies and other perks in proposed bill

A lawmaker in the Philippines has filed a bill seeking additional benefits and privileges for single Filipinos.

Representative Margarita Ignacia Nograles of the PBA party-list proposed the Single Persons' Welfare Act, which would grant scholarships, monthly subsidies, extra days off and flexible working schedules to Filipinos without a partner.

Officially filed on July 6 as House Bill 1364, the proposal would tap government and non-government agencies to develop a comprehensive program of services that will aid single persons and their dependents.

The bill, which serves as an amendment to the Expanded Solo Parents Welfare Act. defines single persons as individuals who are not legally married or who were previously married but whose marriage was subsequently annulled or declared void, those who are legally separated and those who exercise custody on or financially support or aid someone who is not their own child.

I like the old ReadyRamp because it's both a ramp and a bed extender for my Gen 1 Taco but it's too small for my current Gen2 Taco. I could get the new ReadyRamp that's made to fit Gen 2 Taco but I won't be able to use it as a bed extender due to my Taco's set up:

So I got this instead:
