Title: **HOT** G Dragon - Coup D'etat Album
Post by: r3b1rth on September 06, 2013, 01:05:52 AM
Here are two new songs from G Dragon's soon to be released album Coup D'etat; Crooked and Coup D'etat. The Album will be released on the 13th of this month.

CROOKED

I don't know if you guys feel the same way or not but this song and music video is so sad. Even though it's really good. Reading the lyrics, I feel as though it's my own life's story.

COUP D'ETAT

The music video for Coup D'etat is like 'WOW', just wow. The lyrics are beautifully written and the video is artistically stunning. Coup D'etat traditionally means to overtake a government but in this video I believe it has to do with the suffering he's been through in the past few years. The M/V is just f*cking badass, hands down. Triple A+++ for the ninja at the end. Again, like Crooked, it's kind of sad. I guess fame isn't all that it's cut out to be.

More importantly, the songs are all composed and written by GD himself. In that respect, I can see the songs are very personal to him. For this Solo Album, GD wanted to do something different from his previous Solo album and the Big Bang albums. Even though he knows what kind of music people like, for this album, he wanted to make music that he liked in relation to what has been going on in his life, even if it means deviating from the norm. He said that 'as an artist and human being, we change and grow and if you always make music for the audience rather than for your own love of music, then you will eventually lose your passion and you will not be able to grow.'

I truly respect him. His new album is a bit different from his older album but it shows him maturing as a person. What do you guys think of the new M/V's?

Isn't YG studio belong to Teddy Park? Teddy park produces all of the beat for 2NE1 and some for Big Bang too. I have watched one of their video on youtube inside their studio and they run Pro Tools HD - cost more than I can afford in my entire life.  :2funny:

But yeah, GD is a good producer. Thing is they would hire top notch engineers to mix their albums in the US. This ain't no joke. These people are really great at what they're doing. Too bad we don't have this kind of budget.

I believe it's the other way around. Teddy Park works at YG Entertainment. When I saw how he came up with the song Fire for 2ne1. My view of music change. I had no idea it was that badass. lol. Yeah, you might not be able to afford it but that doesn't mean you can't use it ;). lol. I was thinking about familiarizing myself with the program, just to play 'round. I'm more of a "visual" artist but I like all forms of art.

That's why I was interested in your stuff when you mentioned about working on your mixtapes.

This picture of GD is the epitome of the Crooked M/V. I really empathized. Even though I can't cry, don't cry easily... that overbearing sadness, the only kind you feel when you were a helpless child, but as a helpless lost adult.

I think you're right. The studio belongs to YG ENT and I think Teddy also has how own room there. Well, for mixtapes it's hip hop and rap. It's kind of hard to make a beat banging if your still new to the game. When I first started I didn't know anything about mixing of course. I just grab some samples and play it as it is. But over the years I learn that I did it all wrong. You must shape the envelope to get it hit right. Then comes the smacking. All of that is done in the final mix down. Most important is the 808 has to rumble... in the speaker... You know if you listen to a mixtape in your car with a sub.. the 808 really thumping and vibrate  like a 'buzz' sound make it hit right in front of your heart. It takes a really good experience engineer to do it right. but if you're smart you can do it. ;)

Oh, I see. Wow... so much to learn.

I have friends that used to mix beats in fruity loops, of course we were just amateurs playing around. When I was a student in animation... I don't know why but the teacher used to force us to make beats in class. Don't ask me why. We had to make soundtracks for our animation demos I guess.

I don't know why we couldn't just borrow underground tracks... damn, maybe I should have done that instead ;D. Anyway, at the time I didn't understand music as I do now. I just threw some drumbeats together and maybe some guitar or piano loops to make it interesting. I'm certain it sounded like shit for sure.

I'll listen to your stuff whenever you upload them. It'll give me a good concept to work off of.

It isn't that difficult really. In EDM, there is a rule every producer stick by. You always change something after 16 bar...follow by a reverse and then a crash. Bring the bass in to give it more power. The thing you need to worry about is the fill-ins. It changes almost at every 16 bar. Apply this rule and you should be fine.

Sometimes less is more. They call this substraction.. where the kick is mute at every 16s.

In hip hop stuff, I suspect it's different because it's not always repeatable. I would say change every 8 bar. On that last 8th bar you wanna change variation on your drums. Everything is pretty straight forward if you know somewhat about music theory. Best way to learn is to listen to some of your favorite tracks and listen to the arrangement.

Thanks for your input Gracified23. Sorry I've been super busy, started classes again, and doing way too much. I did read over your comment, super useful information. I need to understand more about music so I'll analyze your comment this weekend.
