Title: Is time really money?
Post by: Kong Vang on February 08, 2021, 04:43:23 PM
Investments aside... let me me open your mind to other situations.

Example 1

I have a friend, she’s a single mom who’s a realtor. She has always made good money but business has been particularly good these last 5 years. She has 3 kids, 2 boys and a teenage girl. One of the boys is in the US army and the other is away to college. The girl is home, but they rarely spend any time together if ever.

For her last birthday, my friend gave her Daughter a 10k baby grand piano and a new car... they reason why I am bringing this up is that I don’t think it’s healthy for them both. I know my friend well enough to know that she feels guilty for the time lost, for the missed opportunities to share in her daughter's life so she’s compensating gifts/money for time.

The gift of time is more important and has a higher value than the gift of money IMO..

This is why I've turned down career promotions on a few occasions..

When I think of time as money, I think of handling a time card to the boss and I get paid for the number of hours I put on that time card.

I don't think of a divorced business lady who gives her daughter a car and a piano for times that the divorced lady didn't give her daughter those things years before.

When I think of time as money, I think of handling a time card to the boss and I get paid for the number of hours I put on that time card.

I don't think of a divorced business lady who gives her daughter a car and a piano for times that the divorced lady didn't give her daughter those things years before.

At the heart of this example, I think there is a direct correlation... my friend missed the last 5 years of her daughter’s life and by showering her with gifts is my friend”s way of showing love for that missed time.

Let’s take another example...

Man meets woman. Man likes woman. Woman kinda likes man, but is unsure. Man forces himself onto her.. She cries rape, man gets arrested and goes to jail, justifiably.

Same man and same woman... man meets woman. Man likes woman. Man pays 5k for the night, woman agrees. They spend the night; no arrests.

Same man and same woman... man meets woman. Man likes woman. Ask her for a date, she agrees and they start a relationship. After a few weeks of dating, she invites him to her place and they spend the night; no arrests.

The real difference in this really simple example is time and money. Money cuts away the time needed to build a relationship and gets him to his goal instantaneousl y.

Your friend situation is like a sexual harassment case at work.

It is always the other party that feels comfortable or not to throw a sexual harassment case towards you.

In your friend's case, it is all up to the child to decides.  If it was up to me, I'll take your riches and plays with it but in my mind, I still don't even know the message is being given here.  If her idea of buying her missing time and she doesn't recognize it then that's a failed mission.

You may not want to her this next true story.  A wealthy white guy at the casino was playing at the table and the dealer is an asian chick.  She took a loan from dude for $2,000 with a 10% interest compound weekly.  When she can't make the payment, he told her to go to his house and they can discuss things over.  He was able to conned her to have sex with her.  In her mind, she's thinking that after sex, the debt is fully paid right?  Not quite, he stood up and told her she still owes him $2,000 and if she can't pay next week, come on over again.

The game of a loan shark and female gamblers who takes on loans are what I called "sick biatches"

Push and pull, the game is still played both ways.  Your friend's daughter will take them riches and may feel nothing in return.

Time is money and money is time in its simplest form. Lots of variables at play when you start adding into the equation.

Agreed Cali... I also think time is 100 X more precious.
