General Discussion / To Covid or not to Covid
« on: May 03, 2021, 04:27:42 PM »
I got my shot back in February... because I am considered to be part of the first responder group. Recently, the vaccine requirements for my state was lowered to anyone over 16, as I am sure most states are in now. However, I have a few distance relatives who refuses to get it. I am not sure if they were serious or just joking, I don't joke about stuff like this and they weren't the sort of people I want a debate with, so I did not press them.

Question to the rest of you... honest answers please... are you getting it or have you? If not, why not.

General Discussion / Housing Market Question
« on: April 26, 2021, 09:34:27 AM »
Here's a hypothetical situation:

You have a secondary home purchased in 2015 for 160k and the house is now worth about 350k and rising. You owe about 70k on your primary home and could possibly pay it off with the sale of your secondary home. Your secondary home is generating about 400.00 positive income a month.

Would you drop the rental and pay off your primary home and invest the difference?

Would you keep the rental and hope the market keep going or at least just level off? Knowing you'll get 400 a month?

I dont know what it is about today... maybe I am tired from the long weekend, or maybe it's the allergy meds I am on or perhaps it's my evil self righteous coming out. I dont know and I dont have the time to figure it out.

My cousin and his wife are beating the hell out of each other... and all everyone can say is for them to please be patience and think of their kids. They need to work things out.

A non blood relative of the same clan has been cutting maryjanes for the past 2 years and now she and her husband are buying up land to grow and distribute maryjane. (all illegally, of course)

My sister was called a chink at the grocery store yesterday.

As a Buddhists,  my belief tells me we are all on our own journey and i should only be concern about my own affairs. How do we right what is clearly wrong and in some instances... very wrong?

General Discussion / I have a dream
« on: March 18, 2021, 12:06:53 PM »
I Have a Dream

I am happy to join with you today in what will go down in history as the greatest demonstration for Hmong love and understanding in history.

I have come here today to dramatize a shameful condition. It is obvious today that our Hmong brother and sisters has defaulted on this promissory note to love each other. This is no time to engage in the luxury of cooling off or to take the tranquilizing drug of gradualism.

Now is the time to make real the promises of democracy; now is the time to rise from the dark and desolate valley of segregation to the sunlit path of racial justice; now is the time to lift our nation from the quicksands of racial injustice to the solid rock of brotherhood; now is the time to make justice a reality for all of God’s children.

I say to you today, my friends, so even though we face the difficulties of today and tomorrow, I still have a dream. It is a dream deeply rooted in the American dream.

I have a dream that one day  HmongRock and theking will be able to sit at the same table and not argue about the length of their fishing poles or who has a bigger gun.

I have a dream!

I dream that one day HmongRock will stop going to the bread lines to receive free food meant for the poor and needy.

I have a dream!

I dream that one day that YAX will also make me an Admin on PH, so I can post whatever I feel like.

I have a dream!

I dream that one day Lilly would come back and say Hi, I miss her.

I have a dream!

I dream that one day Dok_Champa would leave her husband and run away with me.

I may not make it to the promised land with you… but I can hope.

What would you be doing or want to do that you couldn’t do or is not currently doing today?

Personally, I want to go north and meet my bro Rock and have a bud light with him. View his gun collection and go beat up on some bass!

General Discussion / For the older folks...

Looking back at your life... all things considered, both the good and the bad decisions.  If given the opportunity to change your decisions and choices??? Would you?

I am not perfect. I have cheated on my gf, I was not a good husband at times, I was a disobedient son, I neglected my siblings, and other more outrageous deeds which I am not proud. Some things I did out of ignorance while other deeds were done with malicious intent, but all were of my own will. As I reflect back, I don’t see how I can be the person I am today without having experienced all those things in my short life. So for me, I would not change a single thing.

General Discussion / What do you remember??
« on: February 16, 2021, 11:23:33 AM »
I grew up in the 90s, my teenage years. What comes to mind for you when you look back at Hmong people during that era??

1. Rise of Hmong Gangs.
2. Communal Apartment living, government housing.
3. Fresno New Years at the Park.
4. Going on a Date with a girl, meant going to her house for 2 hours.
5. Being a rebel meant; girls, coloring your hair blonde. Boys; having long hair.
6. Europe and  Vietnamese techno.
7. Toyota Supra and Celica.

General Discussion / Facebook Me vs. Real Me
« on: February 11, 2021, 03:48:51 PM »
This is nothing new to anyone or at least I hope it is not, but most of Social Media is full of exaggerations. Social Media depicts only the extremes of our situation and feelings, either we're super happy go lucky, having the time of our lives or we are in the gutter, hanging onto our dear lives while battling our spouses and contemplating suicide. These 2 extremes makes us feel inadequate if we let it, because our lives seems much more boring and uneventful when compared to others.

However, the truth is most of us live very normal, uneventful, simple lives and that SHOULD be enough. Just so everyone can put things into prospective (I.E. Hnub Lis Incident), here's a comparison of FB Me would be vs. Real Me for reference.

Facebook Me: A successful single 40+ Hmong Male, with lots of friends and a home and a very successful career with a huge retirement. I am always out with friends travelling to distant places and countries. You find me partying with lots of girls and always with a drink in my hand.

Real Me: I am an insecurity 40+ male with only a handful of friends. I have cheated on a pass girlfriend and was once married and failed at it. I travel, but i stay in mediocre hotels and prefer long hikes and nature, avoiding crowds and parties when possible. I rarely drink alcohol.

General Discussion / Is time really money?
« on: February 08, 2021, 04:43:23 PM »
Investments aside... let me me open your mind to other situations.

Example 1

I have a friend, she’s a single mom who’s a realtor. She has always made good money but business has been particularly good these last 5 years. She has 3 kids, 2 boys and a teenage girl. One of the boys is in the US army and the other is away to college. The girl is home, but they rarely spend any time together if ever.

For her last birthday, my friend gave her Daughter a 10k baby grand piano and a new car... they reason why I am bringing this up is that I don’t think it’s healthy for them both. I know my friend well enough to know that she feels guilty for the time lost, for the missed opportunities to share in her daughter's life so she’s compensating gifts/money for time.

General Discussion / Happiness is in the doing not the goal.
« on: February 04, 2021, 10:47:45 AM »
While completing something, in of itself may be satisfying and gratifying, it is only short lived in my humble opinion. Real joy comes from the act of doing something...

Raising a child.
Romancing your wife or girlfriend.
Building a career or business.

This short film illustrates my point exactly. His life, simple and plain, is full of joy, knowing that each day, he did something useful and for the good of all.

General Discussion / The happy side of death
« on: January 21, 2021, 07:50:53 PM »
When I was in my mid 20s, I attempted suicide. Obviously,  I failed or else I would not be writing this today... I survive only because of shear luck and by the grace of my family.

While in a mental hospital and in the midst of a very painful depression following my suicide attempt, I realized something very profound and life changing. If there was no reason for me to want to live then equally there must be no reason for me not wanting to live either... this may seem confusing so I will let you read that again.

My insight is this, why was I so afraid to live? If there was nothing left for me, nothing left to make me want to go on with my life then I would have nothing to lose by living. No shame, embarrassment, no fear or no regrets. With this realization, everything about me changed... my shyness went away, I diet and lost half of myself, I interviewed and got a really good job and I even got a girl friend.

General Discussion / Is this true in your life?

“Life is essentially an endless series of problems. The solution to one problem is merely the creation of another.”

General Discussion / khaus ve mav nee

Technically it’s called the Coronavirus Response and Relief Supplemental Appropriations Act of 2021... but the older Hmongs know it as COVID money.

Now that it is here... for those fortunate enough to receive it, what’s your plan for it?

Bills? All too common.
A night of alcohol and hot sex?
Stashed away for an emergency?
Down payment on a new Tacoma?
Money for the young honey overseas?
