I agree. I have experiences, too.

When I was younger, I thought people could change. I took it upon me to change someone. After three harsh years of unsuccessfully trying, I raised the white flag on her and moved on.

I still have hope that people can change...But you know what hope is: just imagination.

But Red's partner says hope is a good thing. So, I still hope people can change and that marriage can be stable.
