Title: Because I'm so fat, the metal hinge in the driver's seat broke.
Post by: YAX on January 29, 2018, 11:31:11 AM
I took it into this mechanic.  Told him what was wrong, showed him the broken part and asked if I needed a new seat of if it could be mended.  He said they could weld it back on for $75.  I left it there and they welded it back on.  I came back and the bill was:

$85 diagnostic
$75 Welding service

I was like WTF??  Apparently, him talking to me about it was him diagnosing the issue.

Wow, that's crazy...

That's how it is where you live I guess..

I know in North Carolina in smaller towns..

What they say is what they say..

If they said 75 bucks... it's 75 bucks..

For instance, there's a tire place I buy my tires there... they quote me the price.. and that's it..

They'll say it's 55 dollars a tire... so 4 tires is 220..   and so when I get the bill.. it's 220 bucks plus tax.. maybe they already build the labor into it?!  I don't know..

But when I was in Florida a big city, I bought some tires, they quoted me the tires.. but after I got bill... it was the price of the tires, the labor was separate, they charged a disposal fee too.. Cheezez..

I like small town business.

It's like that in most places.  This one guy's just a rip off because there's little competition where he is or maybe he just wanted to make more money.

Apparently this was the first time that you found out how they calculate labor cost.
