Gaming board tracks down Las Vegas $229,000 jackpot winner after slot machine malfunction
Las Vegas visitor who unknowingly won $229,000 on slot machine is identified after ‘exhaustive investigation’
What happened in Vegas didn’t stay there — much to the delight of a lucky winner.
An Arizona man who unknowingly won $229,000 on a Las Vegas slot machine last month was set to finally receive the prize over the weekend.
Robert Taylor won the money during a visit to the Treasure Island Hotel & Casino on Jan. 8, but didn’t know it due to a “communications error,” the Nevada Gaming Control Board said.
“The slot machine experienced a malfunction that prevented Mr. Taylor and casino personnel from realizing that a progressive jackpot had been won,” the organization said in an announcement Friday.
“By the time an extensive review of the slot machine and the communications technology was completed, confirming the jackpot had been won, Mr. Taylor had returned home to Arizona.”
The control board says it was able to identify Taylor through an “exhaustive investigation” that included help from their own agents, as well as the Nevada Transportation Authority.
Taylor found out on Jan. 28 that he was still able to receive his winnings, the announcement said.
“This has been a great example of government working together for the benefit of the public,” James Taylor, the chief of the control board’s enforcement division, said in a statement.
