what are you doing today?  I want to drive alllllllllllll llllllllllllll the way to North Dakota and fish...  just spend the day fishing ..  Want to see what this place is like... what all the hype is about..  I've never set foot in North Dakota or this lake before.  But that's just a Saturday's wishful thinking.  The truth is, the white bass are long gone, out of season (I think).  Can I still fish for White bass haaahhah... or am I too late?

To catch anything, one must really know the spots that catch. And the baits, too--usually, live minnows on a hook.

Mid-spring to early summer is best. The bites are winding down now. Active anglers might still be able to catch some at night or at some parts of the lake. Can't be as hot as in the spring though.

Is it worth driving 10 years each way? Well, any trip is worth taking.

I met a guy at the archery range today. He told me that the bites are still hot in ND this week. He expects that to continue into the summer.

I was watching youtube the other day of Hmong fishing at Devils lake and fish were biting- throw your fishing pole in 1-2 mins later already reeled in a catch.  For once, I want to have that experience ahhahahah..... my only fishing this year and last...waited and waited under the heated sun and if lucky, maybe 2..  The most recent, ZERO.  I look at my freezer and no fish, NO WHITE BASS. 

Maybe I should start asking for WHITE BASS donations haahhhaahha...

There are a lot of extra white basses in many Hmong freezers. People love to fish but don't care too much to eat. But they just can't throw the white basses back into the water, either. It's just not a Hmong thing to do with this kind of fish. Few are able to overcome that urge to keep.

If you ever drive by a spot with lots of Hmong, just take your cooler around to them. Many will have out-limited their catches and they will want to make you a member of their fishing party, just so they can catch more but give them away to their partners.

I do know many people and will see...  If I ever go to Devil's lake, no need to ask..I'll be reeling in the fish as everyone around me:) One of these days for sure.

10 years is definitely a long way to drive.

Been there.  I didn't think much of it at the time, but this year, seeing all these videos of people being there fishing makes me wanna go back.  If you don't know the spots, watch the videos people post and try to figure out where that area is on the lake.  Maybe use google maps satelite view and look for landmarks, like the pier people are standing on, the structure next to the rocks, shore lines, etc.  Also, when you're there, drive around and if you see lots of Hmong people fishing, that's where it's biting so go join them, chances are someone will limit out and a spot will open up for you.  Good luck!
