Why don't you just do it yourself with Turbo Tax? I've been using it for the longest time. This year, I'm going to owe big time 5K+ to fed and 1K+ to state...
I did mine every year myself and obviously, I'm no cpa. This time around, I let a cpa to take a crack at it while I watch how he does it and now I know how.
Tomorrow will be the amend style and with that, I too will be watching how he does it and which form is needed.
I consider it as paying for education. To see how it is done and I'll do it better next time.
There goes this guy in the neighborhood who does it for all SSI recipients. Yes, with the right form, they too can get a refund about $1100 or so. He does it for free but he knows when their their checks are coming by plugging their SS# into the dot.gov website. Once you get your money, he calls you and the deal is to pay him $300. Lots of folks bail out on him upon getting their money and there is nothing he can do about it. He's not even a CPA and by law, I think a representative can file your tax for you. It just the charging part is what makes it illegal. Asian business to business kind of a thing. He has a customer base with listing for miles. Those who stiffed him the previous year, if they ever show up the following year, he will biatch at them good like he never forget. I say easily $40k right there per season for the guy as a side hustle. That's only 133 clients and that is nothing if you are living in a dense asian population. The guy is smart though. I took my uncle once and upon the signing part, he bends the tax form down to hide his form. He doesn't want the public to know what he's doing because it is a lucrative business for him and he doesn't want any competition.
