Health event aims to help Hmong women catch up on medical screenings, preventative care

An educational event held Saturday morning aimed to help women in the Hmong community take care of their health.

Presentations by Gundersen Health System nurses were given in the Hmong language.

The focus of today’s session was preventative health screenings for women over the age of 50.

Gundersen brought its mobile mammography truck to give women the chance to catch up on screenings.

This event is the first of its kind.

“We did a community cancer needs assessment and through that we found that a lot of Hmong women in our community were behind on their preventative mammo screenings,” said Cancer Center Program Manager Amy Vang. “We thought it was a good opportunity to come out into the community and give them a chance to come here.”

Other forms of screenings were available, as well as Covid-19 vaccines.

Not just Hmong men... All men tends to not seek medical help until they can't get out of bed. A little ailment is nothing... just walk it off.
