Let me tell you my experiences. About 16 years ago, I tried frequenting those Hmong clubs. First time and first one was AC or Asian Cuisine in St. Paul. I was surprised to find many
old friends in the community whom I had not seen for many years. So, we rejoiced and celebrated with drinks.
At first, I drank a can of beer with them. As they wanted to add more, I told them I couldn't handle more but that I appreciated their generosity. (The elders love beer attention. It's a sign of respect to be given beer or some whiskey.)
My friends respected me so much that the following two meetings there, they offered white gourd juice and coconut juice to me only. I really appreciated that.
I stopped going to clubs not because of the drinking but because of one fight I saw right behind me. I was eating at a table with a girl. I heard some glass breaking behind me. I turned around and one guy was already down on the ground with his nape all bleeding. The guy who had hit him with a Corona glass bottle had just stepped into a crowd and the cops couldn't find him because "all Hmong looked alike to the White cops and no Hmong boy would snitch another Hmong boy."
I never went clubbing again.
"i'm too shy" works all the time for me. hahaha
