Teaching and Learning

Here is an old, old poem that I wrote in 8th/9th grade...not the best...in fact, I wasn't even sure about the title - whether to call it "Learning" or "Teaching and Learning", but I kept it all these years because it actually got published somewhere.

Teaching and Learning

Crawled slowly around while bumping into things,
I learned that life is full of surprises.

Attended school and became friends with different people,
I learned that variety is the spice of life.

Made new friends and lost a few along the way,
I learned to not take things for granted.

Being unkind or nice and soon punished or rewarded,
I learned that all things in life have consequences.

Did something incorrect and felt guilty,
I learned that everyone makes mistakes.

Helped someone out and witnessed a smile,
I learned to treat others the way I would want to be treated.

Tried to fit in, but failed to,
I learned that I only have myself to prove to.

Tried to reach the top, but instead fell to the bottom,
I learned that I could get up and try again.

Reached for one of my many dreams and succeeded,
I learned that it had nothing to do with luck.

I learned that life is all about: teaching and learning.
