1.  What is your budget?

2.  What type (style) of video are you trying to make?  family videos, hunting videos, home movies?

3.  For anyone starting out, I recommend reading books or googling topics on aperture, exposure, frame rate, etc.

4.  The newer DSLRs (Canon Rebel series) will record good quality videos.  However, I would not recommend this method for someone just starting out.  Canon, Sony, Panasonic, it does not matter.  What really matters is your budget.  Although I prefer a video camcorder than a DSLR for video.  Do a lot of research online to see what other people are recommending, as each person prefers a different style of shooting.

5.  As far as video editing goes, again what is your budget?  There's iMovie, Pinnacle Studio for beginners.  Or you can move on to Sony Vegas, Final Cut X, Adobe Premiere, Edius.  I recommend getting the Adobe suite, as you can all-in-one bundle for all your photography, video needs.  Again, it all comes down to your budget and computing platform.

Good luck!
