« on: November 26, 2013, 02:06:01 PM »
so this model's specs state that the laptop can only get up to 16gb ram...now i'm reading someones review that they've installed up to 32gb ram off this laptop due to the 4 slot capacity...i'm confused now, is it possible or is this person bullshieting???...

computer whiz's let me know...thanks. .. ;) ;) ;)

well according to the specs here:

http://www.cnet.com/laptops/asus-n53sm-ds71-15/4507-3121_7-35123930.html

the laptop should be able to support up to 32gb and it only shows 2 slots from the specs.  I am assuming it will accept a max of 16gb per slot.

forget the reviews, look at your price point, what you must have on the laptop and go from there.  For me it's resolutions first, processor, graphic cards next and than brand.  Other things could be upgraded.  HD to SSD, Add more Ram etc down the road.

why would you even need 16 G of RAM?  32 G of RAM is an over kill unless you do scientific computation that loads large data into memory.

spoke with an asus agent and he stated that the specs off that review were incorrect that the highest memory ram for this laptop is only 16 gb...

In my opinion 2 GB ram is really not a lot. 2 GB of ram is really small. Most laptops nowadays, when you buy them they come in 4 GB of rams.

Oh wait.. it said that I have 8GB memory, is that small or big?  ???

You should be more worried about how much memory you can store inside that head of yours.

if upgraded to windows 8...the memory ram's possibility could increase to a huge amount...a whiz told me...however i wouldn't waste my time on doing so... :o :o :o

well on the asus specs it says 16gb as the max but it does have 4 slots...just throw in a 8gb stick as a test, if it recognizes that, then it will surely support up to 32gb on the x64.  Most tech you talked to are level 1 so they will just reply with what the specs says.  You need to talk to a higher level tech to get a better answer but like you said someone else posted that they got the os to recognize 32gb; so your chances that the mobo will support it is pretty high.  If I own that laptop, I will surely shoot for 32gb, the more the merrier for me.  Remember to throw in a 512 or 256 ssd and your all set.

didn't know you are a techie diana..good to know.

yes, i'd love to shoot for 32gb...however, windows 7 will not support it...and i like windows 7 vs windows 8...surely windows 8 will support it because of the difference with the os...aiyah...m aybe one day...i guess i'm just going to go with the 16 gb...

thanks for you support jetter... O0 O0 O0
