Too Short - Gettin' It

Too Short doesn't get enough exposure.  No one ever plays him anymore.  It's a shame.  Just remember, you gotta get your money.  Put your 20s on top and 50s on the bottom.

Blues Traveler - Travelers and Thieves
Blues Traveler - Four

BT is best known for their album Four, but I knew them from Travelers and Thieves.  Hook is probably their biggest hit.  I would link their video, but here is Emma Stone's of the song on Fallon's lip sync battle.

BT has struggled a bit throughout the years, but they are still going.  I like their version of No Woman No Cry, which will get me to my next album...

Bob Marley Greatest Hits

My roommate in high school had this album in his collection.  It was a great album.  I bought this album for myself after high school.  Marley just had so many great songs.

Everclear - So Much for the Afterglow

This is probably my favorite album of theirs.  I am sure other people like their other albums, but I have fond memories of this album jamming in my dorm room.  Most people may not get this album, but they probably don't get that just because you're depressed that doesn't mean that you are sad.

Bush - Sixteen Stone
Bush - Razorblade Suitcase

I group these together because they blend in my memory of the band.  I remember making mix tapes for friends (actually mix CDs), and I would always throw in at least one Bush.  If you feel like you're in the middle of the world with a fishhook, give them a listen.

Cake - Fashion Nugget

During a time when people loved the fusion of Dave Matthews, I was into the fusion funk of Cake.  In fact, I sang their version of I Will Survive with my friends at a coffee house night.....but that's a story for another day.

Fatboy Slim - You've Come a Long Way Baby

I was first exposed to this album in a friend's Ford Ranger.  Later, I went to a one of his club shows.  His music video Praise You was Youtube before Youtube.

Alanis Morrisette - Jagged Little Pill

One of the most defining albums of the 1990's is this little album.  It was the voice of many rebellious teens who had one hand in the pocket and the other one giving a peace sign...or was giving a high five?  Smoking a cigarette? Hailing a taxi?  Anyways, it all gets confusing.  It gets even more confusing when Alanis doesn't seem to know the definition of irony...or was that the irony?

Nirvana - Unplugged in New York

Nirvana was only around for a short time, but they had such great albums.  Also, they had one of the best unplugged shows, if not the best.  I can't believe it is getting close to 25 years.

The thing about music collecting is that I remember where I got each album and the circumstances behind each one.  I remember letting the entire album play while I sit back and absorb it all in.  I think this is something that is lost today.  Hipsters still collect with vinyl, but digital is clearly the way to go if you actually want to listen to music.  Of course, some would argue whether music is truly being listened to at all these days....

I was at home over the holidays, and I spent some time dusting off the things in my old room.  All my CD's were stored neatly where I left them.  On the table was my old CD Walkman.  Curious as to if it still worked, I plugged in new batteries and a CD.  I ended up listening to my collection for a while.

Metallica - Metallica

They simply make some of the best guitar solos.
