Bitlocker on Windows 2008 R2 or 2012
« on: May 19, 2015, 09:38:29 PM »
Has anyone installed Bitlocker on Windows 2008 R2 or 2012? I have a data encryption project to implement and thinking about using Bitlocker.  If anyone has used Bitlocker, I'd like to hear your experience, advice and the good & the bad or if you have any recommendation .

Pretty awesome software for both Windows 2008 R2 and 2012. Windows 2008 R2 isn't going to get any more support for Microsoft but it's still commonly used in most business. I'm pretty sure they will upgrade to 2012 as soon as Windows 10 comes out and Microsoft creates another Windows Server 2015.

I also read somewhere online not too long ago that MS has made some improvements to Bitlocker on server 2012.  I'm testing on Windows 2008 R2, but probably will implement on Server 2012 in production.

MS is moving too fast on the new OS game. We just migrated all servers to 2008 two years ago and maybe some to server 2012 this year.  I wonder how other businesses are keeping up with this cat and mouse game.

I'm thinking Microsoft's vision is to come up with new products and services that will make up for lost revenues. It's all about money that counts for Microsoft when it comes to b2b...

Yup, MS is always about money. Like they say, Bill Gate is not greedy, but his company is.

No, but I have it set up as an OS in a virtual environment.  Love the simplicity of Mint unfortunately I need Windows to do some work.

So your using Virtualbox then? Pretty neat but for some reason my laptop is crap when it comes to running Virtualbox and installing OS on the Virtualbox.

I'm not by any means an expert on a computer but what's wrong?  It runs seamlessly for me, however I tweaked my laptop to turn off all the flashy Windows 7 stuff so it's running on the bare minimal resources.

I would love to go to the cloud, but with all the latest security flaws, I would feel better sitting behind my own firewall.  Lol

When I install like a new OS to the virtualbox, its able to install the OS fully but after a few hours of usage with the virtualbox my laptop lags, then the loading cursor of death. I'm thinking virtualbox is consuming a lot of resource from my laptop. I have nothing open just the virtualbox. When I run virtualbox on my desktop, it ran pretty good and smooth. I'm gonna sell my laptop hahaha.

VirtualBox is good, but VMware workstation is much better, just need to cough up the cost.

I agree with you. I thought VMWare have a free version too?
