This is not true.
The name Hmoob came from the word hmoov. In our creation myth, Puj Saub and Yawm Saub used hmoov to create the first human being. These human beings called themselves Hmoob. So technically Hmoob means human being.
Look carefully at the relationship between the consonants and vowels, and then how the tone indicator changes the word.
Hm = consonant
oo = vowel
b = tone indicator
hmoo <-luck
hmoob
hmoom
hmood
hmooj
hmoov <-dust
hmoos
hmoog
Technically there should be 8 words for each consonant + vowel combo, but considering how often we fled from the Chinese we eventually lost some. Example below we have more:
sau <-write
saub <-prophet
saum <-high above
saud
sauj
sauv <-right above you
saus <-sink to bottom
saug
tse
tseb <-scatter
tsem <-bark like a dog
tsed
tsej
tsev - home
tses
tseg - stop
Notice how we have so many missing words?
