Should college athletes be paid???
« on: October 01, 2019, 10:21:49 AM »
its great that they get their education all paid for
But the math don’t add up

These college are raking in big money $$$$ millions
I was down in madison, watching my Wisconsin team play
It is almost as big as the NFL
Can’t find no parking space
I had to pay some college kids $30 to park in their lawn

They need to

1.  Paid their players
2.  Tv deal, ads, commission etc...the money evenly spread among college
3.  Tickets sales, food money.... is kept for the school

The highest paid state worker is a college head coach. Nick Saban makes millions.

To answer your question, yes they should be able to receive endorsement deals from sponsors at the very minimum.

I agree with the endorsement deals as long as it doesn't conflict with the university's policies, but college athletes getting paid? Nope. Don't agree.

You just support slavery, free child labor, sweat shop etc...

Because that’s how much they get paid
Nothing

Zero $$$

While the school, teachers, coach and etc....
Collect alllllll the reward
EATING ALL THAT FAT AND GREASE

And the players get nothing

nope.  They don't have to play football while in college.  They chose to do so.

It can be done. But there will be problems.

Not all schools are equal.
Not all sports are profitable.
With Pay-for-Play you may eliminate whatever parity and competition there is currently. Imagine all the schools with all the assets "employing" all the best athletes.
College athletes are considered amateurs. Paying them would mean reexamining the amateur/pro status both in the college and professional ranks. Will there be an amateur/pro ranking system if college athletes start getting paid? Will there be any distinction between an amateur and a professional athlete?

Or any sports for that matter. How is it slavery when they're getting a free college education in return?

The real issue is the disparity between how much college athletes receive in scholarships (thousands, maybe close to a hundred thousand on the high end) and what the NCAA makes off of them in terms of endorsements, sponsorships and etc.

While I don't think college athletes should receive a salary/contract, I think they should be able to receive endorsement deals, a percentage of jersey sales and any merchandise that exploits them. This will avoid problems with equal pay because it will come down to a popularity contest versus equal pay among all athletes and all sports.

Yax, bro

You are thinking high school football
Where people “choose” to play

In college, they recruit you
Paid for your schooling

And you play for free

Aka. MODERN DAY SLAVERY GLADIATORS

Checks and balances, bro
And a socialism system

Kinda like in the NFL
They collected TV revenue, sponsored, ads, etc....
And distribution that equally among every team

Look at SLAVERY

the master: pay for your meal, housing, soap, medicine, schooling (if they are nice) etc...
And you work for free

NCAA:  they recruit you, paid for your dorm, food, education and you play for free

HOW ARE THOSE TWO THINGS DIFFERENT

UNLESS I AM BEYOND RETARDATION

Again, they're not forced into it.  They choose to do it to advertise themselves, in the hopes of getting into the NFL and making millions.  It's not slavery if you chose to do it.
