Sometimes we have guests that want to know our ethnicity/identities but are not comfortable asking because it may be perceive as being racist by the overly sensitive type. So we put these musical instruments (not the guitar but the American flag design) up as an ice breaker or a good conversation starter since we are proud of our 3 identities (Hmong, Chinese, American). Guests especially gravitate towards the lusheng/qeej and dizi and started asking about them since those are rarer in America relatively speaking. We will even gladly teach other folks that want to learn our languages  O0:

My mom got a smaller one from Laos. I didn’t want her to carry a big one around. When and if I ever visit Laos, I will bring back a regular size one.

I don't use this relic of a knife anymore so I hung it up too as it also represent my Hmong identity..  O0:

Although the Hmong knife is decades old, it's still sharp as hell when I inspected it earlier  :o  ;D:
