A mother has been charged with two misdemeanors after allegedly being caught on video yelling at her daughter to hit an opposing player, which she did, during a youth basketball game in Garden Grove, California.

The Orange County District Attorney's Office announced Thursday that Latira Shonty Hunt, 44, is facing one count of contributing to the delinquency of a minor and one misdemeanor count of battery. If convicted, she faces up to one year in an Orange County jail.

In a video of the attack posted by the alleged victim's mother, Hunt's daughter can be seen attempting a 3-pointer and falling down after a defender made contact with her. The daughter seems to pull the defender down with her, then, as the two walk down the court, a woman can be heard yelling "You better hit her for that."

The daughter follows the order, allegedly from her mother, and strikes her opponent in the throat when she wasn't looking.

In a statement announcing the charges against Hunt, Orange County district attorney Todd Spitzer called a parent ordering an attack on another player "unconscionable" and promised to charge other parents if the same thing should happen again.

The attorney of the alleged victim told NBC Los Angeles that her family wanted to see both mother and daughter prosecuted.

Attacker's father is ex-NBA player
The video saw widespread distribution on social media, eventually leading to an apology from the girl's father, former Chicago Bulls player Corey Benjamin. He called the attack a "mistake" and said it was something his daughter "will need to make right."

Benjamin's apology to the alleged victim:

"To the young lady who was punched by my daughter during a youth basketball game, I sincerely apologize to you and I am praying for your complete healing both physically and emotionally," he said. "To her family, I deeply apologize and regret that this happened to your daughter as she did not deserve this to happen to her. Finally, I apologize to all of those who have been impacted and hurt by the actions of my daughter as well as those of her mother. I am here for your family and wish only the best for you.

Yep, slap on the wrist as predicted:

A woman who encouraged her daughter to punch another player during a youth basketball tournament in Orange County last November was ordered to pay more than $9,000 in restitution and issue an apology, according to multiple reports. The perpetrator was the daughter of former NBA player Corey Benjamin.

Soon after the incident, Benjamin apologized on behalf of his teenage daughter. The ex-Chicago Bulls and Atlanta Hawks guard told NBC LA "this is not how I raised my daughter."

Benjamin's daughter struck an unsuspecting Lauryn Ham with a vicious left hook seconds after taking a three-point shot. Ham didn't give Benjamin's daughter room to land on the jumper, causing them both to fall after the play.

The victim's mother, Alice, says the punch gave her daughter a concussion. She filed a police report and planned to seek prosecutions for both the attacker and her mother, who allegedly encouraged the punch. The attacker's mother, Latira Shonty Hunt, was sitting in the stands and encouraged the incident by saying, "You better go hit her," according to CBS Los Angeles.

"The most shocking and outrageous part is to hear the mother instruct her daughter to go hit her for that, and that's unfathomable," said Kevin Hahn, Lauryn Ham's attorney.

The officials ejected Benjamin's daughter and ended the game after the punch, according to the attacker's coach. Ham's mother told NBC LA Benjamin's daughter swung at two other players in September.

Benjamin didn't attend the game, but he gave a lengthy apology on his daughter's behalf to try and make peace between the parties involved.

"To the young lady who was punched by my daughter during a youth basketball game, I sincerely apologize to you and I am praying for your complete healing both physically and emotionally," said Benjamin, a former first-round pick who played four seasons with the Bulls and Hawks. "To her family, I deeply apologize and regret that this happened to your daughter as she did not deserve this to happen to her. Finally, I apologize to all of those who have been impacted and hurt by the actions of my daughter as well as those of her mother. I am here for your family and wish only the best for you.

"As a father, I'm shocked and disappointed at my daughter's behavior as this is not a reflection of the values and standards that my family holds. Nor does it exemplify the values, character and spirit of sportsmanship that the game of basketball requires. My daughter made a mistake. One that she will need to make right. I am committed to getting my daughter any help she may need and support her in taking accountability for her conduct."

It was going to take more than an apology to rectify the situation.

"Well, that's a start," Hahn told NBC LA last year. "I mean we want the parties responsible to be held accountable."

Why the father apologizing to the victim and her family? His daughter should be the one apologizing to the Asian gal and take accountables of her own action.
