It does not bar you from talking about your home life, what you did on the weekend, etc. etc. It prevents you from talking about your sexual/gender preferences or theirs to them, period. You can talk about your home life without talking about your sexual life with your partner.
Uh... Your job is to educate these little children NOT talk to them about your sexual life style or theirs. They aren't old enough to even know what sex is, let alone gender preferences.
All the years I've been to school from grades school all the way to college, I've never heard of any teacher talking to their students about their sexual life style. No one is stopping you from talking to your own biological kids about it.
