I wasn't sure of what's burning from my pocket. I thought it
might be the seat I was on. But I stood up from the seat and
the burning was still there.

I reached for it and turned out to be a quarter I got
back as change from buying two toy cars for the two little kids I have been
babysitting.

I think this type of quarter might be good heater in the winter. So, I'll keep it.

Are you sure coins are good for keeping you warm?  ;D

Haven't you forgotten? Even you try to heat a coin it can cool off gradually during the winter or to freeze a coin it'll get warm or hot eventually during the summer.

The heat this coin gives off gets me the impression
that it can burn some papers.

Hm...It had cooled off since I separated
it from the pennies and that AA Duracell battery.

Maybe it needs other copper companions to give off that
kind of heat.

You essentially created a complete circuit with your pennies, battery and quarter in your pocket, that's all... hence the coins heated up.
For emergency, you can start a fire with just an AA battery and tin foil...
