Teen Charged with Murder After Video Appears to Show Driver Hit Retired Police Chief on Purpose
Andreas Probst, 64, died as a result of the violent crash in Las Vegas, the Las Vegas Review-Journal reports

A retired police chief was killed while riding his bike when a car rammed into him, and a disturbing video appears to capture the moment a teenager deliberately crashed into the cyclist.

The retired chief, identified by the Las Vegas Review-Journal as Andreas Probst, 64, was riding his bicycle on the morning of Aug. 14 in Las Vegas when he was struck by a stolen Hyundai and projected forward onto the highway, the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department said.

Probst was taken to a local hospital where he later died, the police department said.

The driver, 17, who has not been publicly identified because of his age, was arrested after leaving the scene. The Review-Journal subsequently reported that the driver was later charged with open murder.

A video circulating on social media seems to capture the horrible incident from the perspective of the car’s passenger, who took the video. In the video, the car is seen approaching a cyclist. One of the occupants says: “Ready?”

The other responds by saying, “Yeah, hit his ass,” and laughing.

The car then strikes the cyclist from behind and speeds away. As the car is leaving the scene, the camera pans back to show the victim lying motionless on the side of the road, several feet in front of his bike.

“That [expletive] knocked out,” one of the car’s occupants says.

“We need to get out of here,” responds the other.

The video ends soon after. The Review-Journal reported that police are seeking the car’s passenger, who has not yet been arrested or identified.

Probst was the retired police chief of Bell, Ca., and a frequent cyclist, according to an obituary written by the Review-Journal.

Probst’s daughter, Taylor, told the paper that she had gotten an alert from her dad’s Apple Watch on the day of the crash, signaling that her father had fallen. She and her mother drove to the scene, which was not far from their home, the Review-Journal reported.

“I come from law enforcement as well in my younger days,” Probst’s wife, Crystal, told the Review-Journal. “I was able to ascertain, there’s his bike, his helmet is way over there, his phone is way over there. I’m like, this is not good.”

No race mentioned... We all can safely assumed the perps are the oppressed people. These criminals need to be locked up for life... this isn't a game.

"life" is too easy and worse, waste of tax payers' money.

I say they tie him to a bicycle and blind fold him then have a machine move the bike around in an area and when he's least expected, have a car ram into him..

That kind of exact punishment should cut other idiots' that want to continue this sick behavior down a lot IMO.  O0

Agree... but unfortunately, with today's society they'll probably get a slap on the wrist or out of jail in a matter of months.

Moms of Vegas teens accused of killing retired cop at odds over sons’ actions

The mothers of the two teens accused of deliberately running over and killing a retired police chief in Las Vegas last month have broken their silence, as one proclaimed her son’s “side of the story” will be told.

Jesus Ayala, 17, and Jzamir Keys, 16 were arrested last month when they recorded themselves striking Andreas Probst, 64, who had been riding his bicycle on a neighborhood street, according to the Las Vegas Review-Journal.

A judge ruled Wednesday that the teens will face their charges as adults.

The two mothers, who both remained unnamed, took different directions when questioned about their son’s disturbing actions.

“I don’t know why he did this,” Ayala’s mother told KLAS. “I don’t know if God can forgive this.”

The 17-year-old was allegedly driving the Hyundai Elantra on Aug. 14 when they came upon Probst.

Ayala can be heard in the horrific video asking his Keys "Ready" before the two began laughing as the latter says, "Yeah, hit his ass."

Ayala can be heard in the horrific video asking Keys if he was “ready” before the two began laughing as the latter says, “Yeah, hit his ass.”

The car struck the defenseless cyclist, tossing him over the hood of the vehicle and leaving him to die on the side of the road.

Ayala was arrested the day of the deadly hit-and-run, but it took cops five weeks to capture Keys, who was caught on surveillance camera wearing a face mask at the time.

Probst was the chief of police in Bell, California before he retired in 2009 and moved to Las Vegas.

Keys was caught because of the video he recorded, which police were alerted to by a school resource officer who received the video from a student.

“My son’s side of the story will be told, ‘the truth,’ not the inaccuracies the media will try to portray,” Keys’ mother told the outlet via text message.

The two face charges of murder with a deadly weapon, battery, and attempted murder, Chief Deputy District Attorney Michael Watson said at both teens’ court hearings Wednesday, according to the Review-Journal.

During his appearance in Family Court on Wednesday, Keys had two family members in attendance who cried during the hearing.

Prior to allegedly killing Probst, the two teens had gone on a mini crime spree.

They are accused of running over a 72-year-old man, ramming into another vehicle and stealing four cars that day.

Keys is believed to have been the driver for the first hit-and-run, police said at a news conference on Tuesday, according to the CBS outlet.

The car struck the defenseless cyclist, tossing him over the hood of the vehicle and leaving him to die on the side of the road.

Probst’s family said Tuesday that they believe the senseless killing was caused by the effect “social media has on our youth” — not because of his 35 years in law enforcement.
