Daycare was only a last resort in the event that one of the parents died OR abandoned the family. The quality has also been getting increasingly worse. The initial idea was to only have a few kids in the care of an adult. Unfortunately, that model does not work since so many people are wanting daycare, and one adult cannot live on the wages of babysitting just two kids.

Folks, it's very easy to prevent yourself from having a baby until you're ready. If having a family is something that you really want, then you should take actions that support having a family.

If you're living paycheck to paycheck, daycare makes even less sense. One of you will be working just to pay daycare expenses.  You might as well just stay home and watch your own baby, especially if you have more than one.

A former co-worker opened a daycare. When I went to tour the place, I noticed how institutionali zed everything looked and felt. There was nothing homey about it. It has to be that way because of safety regulations. There is no peace since there are kids everywhere. How is a child suppose to have their quiet time and peaceful play?

Btw, I also know a lot of in-home childcare providers and trust me, your kid is watching tv all day. I mean, they were probably going to do that anyway in your home, but just saying that you are paying a lot for it to happen in another person's home.

All daycares are like that. There is no privacy for the child. But hey, if you think it's a great thing then you can have your child in daycare. You're already messed up so I'm pretty sure your spawn doesn't need daycare to ruin them.

nope, the daycare i've been to have lots of activities and quiet time
snack and etc...
they help the kids do the homework and etc...

Our parents' generation circumvented this problem by working different shifts. Some had grandparents to watch the children.

Not surprising that hmgRock is making the same repeated argument - it's a question of income. This is not a debate about income. Also, this always devolve into an issue that apparently only women should have a say in. lol

The truth is, it doesn't have to be mom who stays home. Dads can very well be a stay-at-home parent, too. However, many woman can't stomach having a husband who doesn't work, which is strange given the fact that plenty of woman put up with a loser man anyways.
