The one in the pix are Pacific Mackerals. In socal, you can catch them by the bucket full at times. When the macks are there, if you have 10 hooks in the water, you can catch 10 fish at the same time.  Like white bass there's no limit on macks.   

The big macks are King Mackeral on the east coast and Gulf of Mexico.  Pacific Mackerals don't get as big and are great bait for big fish.  One of my buddy got this WSB on a whole mackeral fishing off his yak last Fri down in San Diego.

great way to end the early season catch and release, lots of fish caught and lost a lot of them also.  We did manage to catch some hogs that came unbuttoned, great weekend, cold-rain and overcast skys.
