They can be found anywhere along the coast man. I'm located in socal but they should be coming into the bay too. Look for sandy beaches and start casting. Good lures to start out with are swimbaits, especially big hammers.

It is, I live like 10 minutes away from the ocean, the best part is that it's mostly free. There's a ton of species there too. Here's some pics of my uncles with Bat Rays, by far the strongest animals we catch regularly. They will really test your tackle. Imagine 100lb underwater stealth bombers pulling all the line you have on your reels.

Hmmm since I'm at it, I might as well show a couple more from my fish folders:

This is a Jacksmelt, a lot of asian people like to eat them but they have worms:

My brother with a shovelnose guitarfish, excuse the knife wounds, you need to bleed them so they don't taste bad:

A Grass Rockfish I caught on a tube:

Sand Sole, I think it's a cousin of the halibut:

Oh and some whelks we caught while crabbing. I cooked these French-style they are so delicious!

Great Videos basside! I hope to do that with a son of my own one day! Some of my best memories were times fishing with my dad.

I live in Santa Barbara, california, currently going to school down here. There aren't that many hmong families, just a small sprinkling plus my friends at the university.
Come down, the weather is getting good! Pretty soon the mackerel are gonna come in then we get random hmong families from Fresno fishing at the end of the pier haha. It's a sight to see everyone fishing for these fish, the men are bsing and fishing, the women are talking and cleaning fish, and the kids are playing with crabs and seaweed.

On a flip note I'll be visiting MN in about 2 months, I'm gonna bring some stuff that we use out here to hopefully catch some northerns and other fish.

Here are some more pics I dug up in my picture folders, they aren't really trophies, just sharing more species with the PH family:

Mussels we pick from a rocky spot:

Clams that were also from the same place:

Clams+Mussels stir fry Hmong style:

Fishing at New Years = Cold Water = Mini crabs:

This female crab has eggs, some people like eating the eggs once they've been cleaned:

The famous "kingfish," a.k.a. White Croaker. Most people call it a trash fish, but again asian people like them haha:

A Thornback Ray. It doesn't really have much meat, but I know a guy who eats em. I tried it but all I got was chewy-stringy meat from the wings:

Queenfish, they are great bait from Halibut. This one bit a lure as long as itself:

Another Calico Perch:

And lastly... If these guys make your mouth water, you need to eat more seafood buffet. I think the red one went about 9 inches across:

Smallie From Last Night

Nice catch! I just sent this to the DNR's office to see if it could be a State Record from the St. Croix right?
