I have yet to catch a 6lbs+ LMB, a few 4-5lbs only. Gonna mount my first 6lbs LMB for sure!

I catch so many 6lb'ers, it doesn't phase me anymore. I'm mounting the first 7lb'er I get though.

It doesn't hurt me any.... haha.. but to answer your question, its NOT INSIDE the gills, so to speak.

Is that type of scale better than the clamp ones for the bottom lip?

Only time I come up to MN is either for family gatherings or MN J4.

Those are northern strain yea? Either way that's a great catch.

Yea my local lake lost its southern strain bass population to the northern strain. They didn't like the clear cold deep water of the reservoir where the northern strain and small mouth thrive. The lake where I caught those sunfish still has florida strain bass because it's shallower, murky/warm, and has a ton of shad. I saw two 6-8lbers that day, one grabbed my sunny that I had just hooked and ran with it before spitting it out. She came back to chase the sunny but missed it close in. Again, nice fish, from my lake the northern strains rarely pass 5 lbs.

Northern stains do attain 12-13lbs. But anything in the 5lbs range on up is a trophy. MN's record is only 8lbs 15oz, but WI's is something like 12lbs. So it's just a matter of time before someone from MN bags a 10lbs+.

Problem with MN is the open season.  The big females are usually done spawning.

You always have Prescott and down stream. Especially down by Pepin Lake and it's many backwaters.
