I had surf perch. To me they're more flaky and soft, much more like crappies.

Surf perch are pretty soft white meat fish. I like them grilled because it firms up/dries out the meat nicely. In certain species the meat is so soft that it's almost like mush.

Surf perch is too soft for me.  Had it once and never had it again.

Got all ya beat on the Crappies.  My first slab of the year 2012 caught last week at the local neighborhood fishing pond.

Wow tat'sa hella a wopper you caught there, let me guess 21", 10lb(er). You should get tat mounted..lol i have yet to catch my 1st fish of the swason 2012.

nope just straight up fillet with shore lunch and deep fried.

1.  Hey guys, look at what I found in a California's striper's cavity of the belly.   

Could it be a pearl?   I have caught so many stripers but this is the first one that gave me a surprise.    Take a look.

Dunno if it's a pearl or not but I'm sure you could convince the old folks that it is... make a lot of money for new gear too
