I had surf perch. To me they're more flaky and soft, much more like crappies.

Surf perch are pretty soft white meat fish. I like them grilled because it firms up/dries out the meat nicely. In certain species the meat is so soft that it's almost like mush.

Surf perch is too soft for me.  Had it once and never had it again.

Got all ya beat on the Crappies.  My first slab of the year 2012 caught last week at the local neighborhood fishing pond.

1.  Hey guys, look at what I found in a California's striper's cavity of the belly.   

Could it be a pearl?   I have caught so many stripers but this is the first one that gave me a surprise.    Take a look.
