The move is largely symbolic as the legislative session has been ground to a halt by the quorum-busting Democrats who fled Texas 11 days ago. Even if the Democrats returned, Abbott would have to add the item to his special session agenda for it to have a chance at passing.

Armed shopper shoots would-be robbers and fends off assailants in dramatic scene

A man defended himself with a concealed firearm after a pair of men approached him in an attempted robbery in Los Angeles, according to video footage. At least two suspects suffered gunshots to the legs during the Monday night incident and were later arrested on charges of attempted robbery, the police department’s Wilshire Division detectives said. "Words were apparently exchanged, and the victim ultimately produces a handgun, apparently to defend himself and others in his group from the would-be robbery suspects. The victim fired his weapon towards the suspects and then all parties immediately fled the location," the Los Angeles Police Department wrote in a press release Tuesday.

Video footage from a store on Melrose Avenue and Vista Street captured the scene.

GOP Governor Says It's Time To 'Blame The Unvaccinated' For Pandemic Surge

Alabama’s Republican Governor Kay Ivey expressed frustration with those who are eligible to get the vaccine but remain unvaccinated, saying they are “letting us down.”

On Thursday, Ivey was asked by reporters what is it going to take to get people vaccinated. The governor, seemingly flabbergasted replied, “I don’t know. You tell me. Folks are supposed to have common sense.”

Ivey then went on to blame the unvaccinated for the recent surge in covid cases, driven by the Delta variant, which currently represents more than 80 percent of the new positive cases nationwide.

“It’s time to start blaming the unvaccinated folks, not the regular folks. It’s the unvaccinated folks that are letting us down,” Ivey said.

Dr. Brytney Cobia, a hospitalist at Grandview Medical Center in Birmingham, wrote in a recent Facebook post she is treating a lot of young, otherwise healthy people for serious coronavirus infections.

"One of the last things they do before they're intubated is beg me for the vaccine," she wrote. "I hold their hand and tell them that I'm sorry, but it's too late."

In her post, Cobia wrote that when a patient dies, she hugs their family members and urges them to get vaccinated. She said they cry and tell her they thought the pandemic was a "hoax," or "political," or targeting some other age group or skin color.

"They wish they could go back. But they can't," Cobia wrote. "So they thank me and they go get the vaccine. And I go back to my office, write their death note, and say a small prayer that this loss will save more lives."

Graduate wealth management analysts should expect to work 72 hour weeks — and they'll be better trained for it — according to a senior JPMorgan executive.

Mary Callahan Erdoes, the CEO of JP Morgan Chase's Asset and Wealth Management division, was speaking during an episode of Bloomberg Wealth with David Rubenstein.

Erdoes said that working longer hours will help graduate analysts learn their craft more quickly.

Based on the idea that it takes roughly 10,000 hours to gain "base-level mastery" of something, it's going to take around five years if someone works eight-hour days, five days a week, said Erdoes.

A woman in Florida was arrested after being accused of breaking into a retiree's yard and swimming naked in his pool. ... He then saw a naked woman in the pool, the officer said. She was later identified as Heather Kennedy, 42. The woman was still in the pool when the officer arrived, the arrest report said.
