Title: Side Hustles
Post by: Kong Vang on December 21, 2020, 12:14:54 PM
Any of you guys have any side hustles you can share?? The market's been really good to me this year, but I am trying to up my savings rate, need to get out of the 9-5 rat race asap.

Things I am doing already:
Rental Income

Things I am thinking about:
Uber/Lyft on the weekends? Anyone currently doing this?
AirBNB? Anyone trying this with their house?

Thank you.

"BRO", don't you read before you respond?

I am trying to increase my saving's rate, which has nothing to do with how much I am making. I could be making 1 million a year, but if my savings rate is only 1%, I will not be going anywhere fast.

Pay attention, "BRO".

. I could be making 1 million a year

LMAO

why you wanna drive UBER 20 hours per week to make $300-400
when you can just pick up a couple of shift at your workplace high income
(unless you are salary,e tc...whatever)
could be making 3-4x more

they say that BILL GATE don't even bend down to pick up a penny
it has to be a $200,000+ coin for him to bend down and pick it up
because it ain't worth his time

I am in management... which means I am salary, which means I get paid 40 hours per week regardless of hours work. It can be 60 hours or 20 hours, the pay is the same. I just can't add more shifts or hours.

I know a guy who worked a side hustle like a second job to support his toys.

He can buy anything he wants and his side gig will pay for it in no time.  None of this BS drug dealing side gig.  We talking about legit w-2 here.

I'm doing a side hustling right now but mine has a price though.  40 hours second job and I'm too shameful to tell you how much the side gig pays but my min price is over $20 per hour for doing nothing but ph or online buying my own stuff though.  With 2 gig under my belt right now, you can do this if both jobs are easy.  I mean literally doesn't take that much brain power to do this type of work.  If physical work or computation calculation, count me in with just 1 job.  If easy work, I'll do as many.  Even driving for uber is headache work cuz you got to calculate all them wear and tear on your vehicle and what not plus driving is too much work already, it tired them eyes.

To some people, if they pay you to play video games all day, it is like that easy.  Now if they pay me to sit and stare at the wall for 8 hours and pay big, I wouldn't do it.  Too painful for me to sit or stand there and do nothing.  Although that seems like the easiest gig but it is rough being bored and getting sleepy.

Anyways, yeah, gotta trade your time for them dollars and when I have a child, I'll downgrade to just 1 job and be a full time dad instead.  Right now is the time for me to shine and collect.   O0

I see and know people making good scratch off FB. It all depends on your time ROI. If you're crafty you can try your hand at selling homemade goods. Stay away from cheap Chinese jewelry though. And any foods requires licenses although FB doesn't always enforce it.

Good luck.

Thanks for sharing Duma... I don't have toys to pay for, but as noted before, I am trying to get out of the rat race. My goal is to have enough saved so I can generate an 50k/year income without touching my principal. COVID 19 only strengthen my decision and now I want it more than ever.

Good luck on your side gigs too.

Was thinking about getting a camera and just film whatever thoughts that comes to my mind or my journey into the world of hustling or outdoors fishing and chasing skirts.  Then give it to an editors that is willing to do for half the profit.  I think the boring and time consuming part is the editing part.  If I got a wife like you, I'll give her contents and she will make a short story out of it and people will watch it.  Believe me when I say this.  Some people are just bored freaks and enjoyed watching these real life reality shows.  Anyone can be a reality show artist really and if you film enough, you might catch an award wining short story.

I am currently boycotting FB, Instragram, Twitter and the like. I just think those are not very healthy medians. A few of the people I know do have YouTube channels, which has come across my mind. I figure, I can start a channel on my travels and perhaps share some of my struggles with being a minority who's doing FIRE. Not sure of the full concept yet. I will ask for support if I do decide.

Thank you for contributing.

May I suggest two books: the intelligent investor by Benjamin Graham and Rich Dad Poor Dad by Robert Kiyosaki. Improving oneself may open new doors. If you’re already into real estates and the stock market, those are huge hustles. Many ways to gain huge multigeneratio nal wealth from it.  I don’t recommend Uber, lift, taxi services, you can’t control who is going to step in your cars.

I haven’t gone passed the stock market. Real estates is my next endeavor, maybe hotels, commercial is my aim. At the moment real estates is overvalued, can’t see it sustaining too far into the future.

My side hustle will be slinging covid 19 vaccines on the black market.

This is better than liquid gold.  Right now, even if you have all the money in the world, you can not get vaccinated.   You need to get in line there but with money, you can buy yourself the line.

Health care workers are guarding their stash and who knows, stealing them to shoot their family members at home.  Think anyone rich enough to buy 2 vials for 100k?  I think so.  If they can't wait till mid 2020 to get theirs and fear is what makes it a great commodity to trade right now.

I'm just saying.  I'm not doing and if the fed watch this, I'm just joking.   :2funny:

One thing I am fearful of and that is to hustle to get to a billion.  When you get close to a million, you already die so you are now a wondering ghost who will not leave this earth cuz you want your money back.

Do live long enough to fulfill your goals.  You might be too old when you hit your goal but what's left of your life, limb and health if you have all that money and can't spend it cuz  your health is exhausted in chasing your dreams?

I like to use the term enough having enough better than chasing greed.  Build your foundation but be young enough to enjoy your foundation.

Covid is already freed (going be free)

My side hustle will be growing marijuana,
Trafficing meth and coke and firearms

Not say I would do it
But if i have to

My side hustle will be slinging covid 19 vaccines on the black market.

Thx Cali Guy... I have not read Intelligent Investor but have read Rich Dad, Poor Dad... I also subscribe to Dave Ramsey's ideas and is on baby step 6. Lastly, as mentioned earlier, I recently got turn onto FIRE.

My real estate investment is not much. Aside from my own house, I have 1 rental so far, a 3b/2b resident currently renting for 1500 with a mortgage of 1200. I am barely clearing 300 every month, but at lease I am on the positive and the value has skyrocketed. I got it in 2015 for 165k and the last estimate on Zillow is 340k now.

Good luck to you and please share your struggles and successes, would love to hear from your investments.

Yeah we did quiet a bit of Uber Eats, Door Dash, etc., due to the pandemic and when we asked those folks how's business, they said many new recruits and folks out of work were added to the field and this include the transportation area too like Lyft and Uber.

With 1 job, it pays for what you need and that has been established.   You are considered normal like most americans out there.

Now with a side hustle, that's extra income.  I was thinking of taking the side hustling gig and uses that income to pump into a business of some sort.  It can be a failure business of some sort but as long as there are income pumping into this business, it shall thrive.

You never know... This fruity business might be your retirement package as if you hit the jackpot, you can then expand the company to go global and who knows, sell it to amazon or some big tech firm for your millions.  Like Zappo ceo guy and then use drugs and die in a house fire.  Something like that.

My plans are not as grand... in fact, my plans are really simple and very ordinary. I don't want to be rich, I don't want to conquer the world, and I don't want to be famous. I don't want these things because I know I am not talented enough to accomplished them and because those aren't really the things I want in life.

I figured my time on earth, my time on this beautiful and awesome place is very limited and whether you choose to believe this fact or not, I also believe it is true for you. To that end, I want more time out of the office and more time dedicated to the activities of my choosing. I am very fortunate to have a job that pays well, and I am very lucky to be in my unique situation so I am going to do all I can with my blessings.

Here's a better ending to your story... His fruity business took off, he sold it to Amazon for 100 million dollars and gave 50 million of it to charity. He is now living on a small island in the south pacific. On his spare time, he travels and volunteers for the Red Cross. Now, that's an ending!

To me, I'm like an operational manager or a project manager so of speak.  I'm not looking for the final results but the process is more important.  In a game, people play to win.  Not me though. I play just for the sake of playing.  Maybe this is me talking if I stay forever single but with a wife, this crazy idea of mine will not exist without her approval and I'm sure that her idea is to play to win.  If you don't play to win then what the hell you playing for?  Like opening a business.  You want to make profit right?  That's what the normal folks wants.  To me, I just want to set it up and let it fly and see where she may go.  If it fails, no problem, I got money coming in to support it if needed to.

Sounds like doing an non profit.  Just build it to create jobs for my employees and revenues should 0 out by the end of the year or if there are profit, given back to my employees as xmas bonuses or throw parties for them.

I mean it is like this.  If your rich uncle gives you X amount of dollars per month but you have to put it into your side hustling business and since it is free money, you can use it to try on anything you want.  Sort of like you say you want to retire with X amount of residual income but instead of eating it all, you take that residual and covert that energy into other positive energy or a business hobby so of speak and that is what I meant when I said that I'm an operational manager type of a minded person I am.

I wouldn't mind doing  FIRE and call it a day but it would be incomplete in my challenge.  I wanted a different type of "more"  :idiot2:

I'm retired and doing very well with finances.  I can basically buy a new car every couple of months if I wanted it too.  However, I learned that material things never fully fulfill the soul, trust me, it never do.  Money does matters but to certain point only. I always find comfort, trust, life and happiness in family.

With that said, I have to say first you have to understand money management.  Once you do, you will know where to put your money where it matter most.  Be discipline and work hard always and you should come out better than most and be okay.

I can't see myself retire unless my friends are retirees like I am.  There is no fun in being retired and ready to do what I always wanted to do but yet, my friends are still working.  Retiring means you have escaped from the reality of life.  Time constraints is no longer your enemy.  Everyone else not retired is still watching the clock for the clock will dictates what you must do.  Being retired, just throw away your clock and night and day are the same.  Why?  Cuz timing is the natural reality that will one day, take your fate.   O0

Curios... you're living my dream.

Age: Too Old, Sex: Male and yes married with children of which are grown up and all have college degrees.  Like I said before, I'm kinda balance, not too much of anything but don't lack in other things either like family and grandchildren's, etc.  I think that's the sweet spot, a balance of things.

Thank for sharing, I know some people are modest and I want to respect your privacy. Again, I really appreciate what you have shared. Because you have shared, I will also share. I am in 40s and currently single. My goal is to be financially independent by 55 and retire overseas.

Your last statement is very true, Balance of things.

Annual income of 20k a year qualify you for government's handouts.

Food stamps 300 a month
Other ect stuff I don't even know but it is out there add 700 a month
Total $1,000 a month

30 years = 360 months x $1,000 = $360,000 for your retirement.  Like the lottery, beg them to pay you up front and cash out just in case you don't live past your 30th expected years.

Like a plea bargain, better take that cuz I don't know too many people retiring with $360,000 tax free money in their pocket upon retirement.

The trick is to have a lot of children.  You suck the government's handout till the last kid turns 18 which then disqualifies you from government's handouts then these kids will be in the work force, making money and they will pay your bills for you.  Better start planning for your future son.

Well TBH, if you are single and your finances are good, chances are MOST will be lonely at some point and want family because that is the one thing your money can’t buy.  Trust me, I know a few single loaded people and the story unfolds during a few drinks lol.  On the flip side, if you have a wife and kids, there’s even bigger obstacles.  You gotta have a wife that is supportive and understanding.  Someone who is a true wife who is willing to build a life with you and occasionally deal with your BS vice versa, you do the same for her.  A strong, understanding couple or marriage is hard to find.  Children are at another level.  Every family has bad apples or a few.  Any parents and I mean any parents, who can raise ALL their children to be good, with normal success or better, with a college degree, never seen a jail cell, you know….doing okay for the most part.  These parents are expert at raising children and should receive a PHD in parenthood.  Trust me, I know a lot of parents who fail at this in one dept or another or in several dept.  It’s hard to say really because everybody walks a different path.  Even with the same mindset and goals, what you encounter in life will totally blow you in another direction.

I got an idea for a side hustle...

So a side hustle is X income as in variable right?

Why work any harder when you can get a wife who will be that X income?

Ta da, there you go, getting a wife is a side hustle.   :2funny:
