He also gave each of my siblings one too but with different time frames since our ages vary. The only criteria for receiving one is the receiver has to be in the teenage stage of his/her life, and is learning and preparing to pass through the threshold of adulthood in a few years.

Interesting calendar and he probably did that to motivate all of you.

Back in the 80s, we were poor. I mean like living in the projects poor so yes that was a way to "motivate" us younger generation and let us know that everyone is in charge of their future in terms of learning, preparing and moving forward in America. It's what you want to make of it. He passed away but his way of thinking and philosophy influenced me and my siblings quiet a bit such as focus on your strengths and build on it, stop comparing yourself to others (just be yourself), you are in charge of you, etc.

It's funny, my oldest sister is the least educated among us but she's the most successful in terms of just money and assets out of all of us because she has worked harder and put in more time over the last few decades...
