Squirrel hunting now
« on: October 23, 2021, 05:35:56 PM »
Here i am alone in the car in the middle of nowhere surrounded by wood on all side n getting dark. Hubby is hunting up in a wooded area sort of steep n i decided to stay in the car. It is soooo quiet i can hear a pin drop and i am alone. Outside the window i spotted a bird flying by. It’s too quiet n getting dark n i am alone. Thank goodness i have signal in the middle of nowhere

He has to be back within 20 minutes. Can't hunt beyond 30 minutes after sunset.

Day 2 of squirrels hunting- here i am sitting in the cradle of a giant tree and its roots on both side of me. Hubby is across a steep hill n i am looking at the top trying to locate him. Nowhere to be found and i am freezing. I could make out cries of birds of different kinds. Oh my goodness its cold i am shaking, alone surrounded by forest everywhere. Cold gloomy day. We got a squirrel this morning at the top of the hill next to a cornfield, squirrels came for morning meal. Oh my goodness im freezing n thank goodness i have signal inthe middle of the Forest . He is no where i sight n i am cold. Its quiet n peaceful... and i am alone for now.

There are only two kinds of birds you hear on a cold day like this: blue jays and woodpeckers.

Bue jays are blue and white stripes and fly from branch to branch. There usually are a few of them in one area.

Wood peckers have blue, white and blue stripes and peck up and down trees. They are loners.

It’s a good idea to dress warm on a chilly day like today. It’s much colder in the woods than in the open fields.

10 mins after my posting, he came n got me. We went to the other side of the hill n saw some squirrel tree nut and he told us to stay put n see if squirrels would come.  There we hid behind a giant tree n kept watch. After 30 mins no squirrels appear n i was freezing so we left. On the way back we had to cross high n dense vegetation, jumped over a small river, n path can be a liitle steep n slippery, in this part the leaves already fallen n most treed barren. Must be the colder weather n early morning frost.

Now just done with lunch n figuring where to hunt next, im not a hunter only came as company n a good workout. I am enjoying the moment because tomorrow is back to work.

Oh last night we slept in the van. Got the inspiration from watching those van life. Loved it n we got to be real close to nature.  Very nice!

I rather bring the lady with me than let her sit in the car by herself.  Anything can happen out there in them woods.

I don't invite you for a trip like that just to have you carry my gears or stay back and watch the car.  I rather for you to stay hm for at least I know you are safe.

So what you gonna do with them kill?  A Hmong friend gave me one before and I was surprised how heavy it was, wrapped in that aluminum foil.  Gave it to my people to cook it but they ended up placing it in our big freezer.  You know how it is with freezer like new meat are placed on top so the bottom stuff are lost at the bottom.  Years later when we cleaned out the freezer, the squirrel was found at the very bottom.  Had to throw it away.  What a waste.

Nutchucks love going up and down trees, too. I once watched one peck a bark; a wood worm fell down the tree, and the nutchuck dived to grab it before flying back to a branch to enjoy its worm.

I took a lady hunting once and left her in the car with my Governor ...I mean Smith & Wesson's Governor handgun full of three kinds of ammos--those with lots of BBs and those that were whole bullets. It's okay. She was taught how to use it and already tested it at the ranges a few times. Any cougar or coyote that comes for her will turn back quickly. She also had a walkie-talkie with her that connected to mine, too. I told her to bundle up so that people couldn't tell that she was a woman and that she shouldn't reach out to greet anyone. "We aren't here to make friends," I told her.

I think another guy tried to do that with his chick one time. I was driving on a trail and came upon a person who was on an ATV on the oncoming traffic. The person's face was all wrapped up and hands were gloved. But ...man, those eyelashes were so feminine! Gotta see the road, eh?

I don't sit under trees long. I try to look and listen as I stealthily tiptoe through the woods. I usually see and hear them hopping on branches or scratches barks.
