PRICE — Five people were killed in a multi-vehicle crash Thursday afternoon north of Price. The victims were identified by the Utah Highway Patrol on Friday.

The crash happened Thursday afternoon when a silver SUV stopped on Spring Glen Road, preparing to go east on U.S. 6, attempted to pull out into a designated acceleration lane but overshot and went into the next lane where a semitruck "pulling doubles" was driving, according to a statement from UHP.

The truck tried to evade the SUV and lost control, "veering to the left into westbound traffic," the statement says. The truck hit a westbound Nissan and pushed it off the roadway into a rock embankment. An ATV driving on the westbound shoulder was also struck during the crash.

The four occupants of the Nissan and the occupant of the ATV all died in the crash.

On Friday, UHP identified those in the Nissan as Sang Her, 56, from Brooklynn Center, Minnesota; Lee Thao, 38, from Brooklynn Center, Minnesota; Bee Moua, 26, from St. Paul, Minnesota; and Mai Lor, 25, from St. Paul, Minnesota. The four were part of the Hmong community and were traveling on a trip with their church. One of the passengers killed was pregnant with her first child.

The ATV driver was identified by UHP as Gustavo Mendoza, 35, from Helper.

The crash caused heavy traffic delays along U.S. 6 while state troopers investigated the crash.
