Welfare is for those that truly needed help... Just as SSI is for people that are over 65, blind or disable that don't have enough resources. However, the system have been abused by many... those that are able but too lazy to work are leeching off of welfare and SSI. I've known many many Hmong elders that claimed this and that just to get SSI even when their condition is false. I personally know a Hmong lady that lie about being partially blind to get SSI... and I'm sure there are tons of examples of this, not only in the Hmong communities but other communities as well, including Whites.
I remember my dad telling us that some of our cousins were telling him to not work but be on welfare because we had 9 people (including my parents). My dad said nope and found a job at a factory along with my mom... they were getting paid $3.50/hr(minimum wage) and also worked odd jobs on the weekend when available. My siblings had after school jobs when they turned 16, including me. My first job was at Rallys (Checkers) after school. I'm still amazed at how my parents were able to raised all of us. We didn't have much at all... I remember going dumpster diving for toys and we got Christmas gifts(underwears and socks) from the Salvation Army.
This is not a Dem/GOP issue... I've not heard any GOP/Conservatives that want to eliminate welfare, medicaid/Medicare, etc etc altogether. So, don't go spreading lies about MAGA, GOP, Conservatives wanting to eliminate all aids. There are too many corruptions and we need to weed out the abusers. Everyone need help at one time or another, however, it should not be a life support or generational support.
