They initiated an experiment with an "inclusive workout space" to specifically welcome women and non-binary students, although the school says men are not excluded from exercising during those hours. Men can still exercise in the gym, just not where this 'area' designated for women and gays.
This initiative, launched by the Student Assembly for Gender Empowerment (SAGE) was reportedly inspired "from hearing women and non-binary students experience a common sense of discomfort in the gym." SAGE is "responsible for advocating feminist issues on campus and in the community."
Hmmm... so, if women (biological) feels uncomfortable working out with Trans... is the university going to open up a section of the gym for them only? What about if Black, Brown, Yellow or Red feels the same? What about men feeling uncomfortable working with women?
Mengze Wu, a senior majoring in neuroscience, told the outlet, "My past experiences with being in enclosed spaces where it’s very men-dominated [have] never been super pleasant. There tends to be this problem that I face where I don’t get to take up a lot of space unless I really declare myself. And even with that, I face a lot of hindrance in being able to feel completely comfortable." Uh, exercise at home... the gym will be full of people of all race, gender and ages. If you don't feel comfortable, do it in your private space.
All students pay the university and all have rights to use any facilities that's open to students.
I remember the college that I went to started making prayer rooms for Muslim students, 5% of the student population, so they can pray - during my senior year there. I didn't see the college making space/room for other religion to do their thing.
