New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani is refusing to accept a hefty pay hike as he continues looking for ways to cut back on excessive government spending.

On Thursday, July 16, the New York City Council voted to raise their own salaries, as well as the mayor’s salary and those of other top elected officials. The plan was overwhelmingly approved in a 42-6 vote, with moderate Democratic Council Speaker Julie Menin abstaining.

The legislation provided a modest boost to councilmembers’ annual income — from $164,500 to $175,500 — and a sizable 18% increase for the mayor. If welcomed, Mamdani’s salary would rise from $258,750 to $305,800, a difference that’s greater than the average income in the Bronx.

Mamdani comes with strong South Asian or Hindu ethics combined with a
committed character to the general population. He doesn't
want people to get the impression that he's in this for the money,
especially when the current 305K annual pay is already sufficiently large
for a New Yorker.

A high pay prevents the mayor from becoming unethical in the budget operations.
Mamdani might have that forced onto him.

But I didn't know Steve Ly and Sheng Thao are still mayors.

Looking at how fragile Hmong character to ethics is, the answer is no. These people
would feel it's an augmentation of their status. Without any second thought, they'll accept
any raise with pride.

But when we look at the current racial history, especially in that Minnesota, no Hmong
will receive such raise that easily.
