Building a computer again.. need opinion
« on: May 22, 2012, 11:18:04 PM »
looking toward i5 or i7 processor lga 1155 or 1156 (the difference?)
i need a decent motherboard (prefer intel) and processor.
it's been about 4 years since my last build.

trying to keep my budget low.

here's what i have so far while these are either dirt cheap or given to me:
1. silverstone (eagle) aluminum gaming case? (it's huge-- thanks twotwins)
2. Intel XTS100H cooler
3. 1000w power supply
4. nvidia geforce 8800 gts oc (vid card)
5. 2 large fans and 2 smaller fans

i'd like to used them if possible, although i do not know the compatible of these parts.

i'm also looking at this: Intel Core i5 750 2.66 GHz Quad-Core Processor CPU LGA 1156 for cheap.

give me some ideas or point me to the right direction/suggestions
thanks guys/girls.

I would recommend SSD HD to run the system while using an external HD for storage.

ssd may be better but it's expensive as i'm trying to keep my budget low...
i'd say maybe 200-300 give or take.

i'm planning to keep my storage internal although i do have external hd for storage as well.

no micro center here... but those prices looks reasonable.

i just bought a 1156 mobo, but may change my mind since it has a broken pin (cpu) and will be returning it.

that mobo you posted looks good. its compatible with a few processors.

how is it old? you pick your own part to build, unless of course you don't know how to put a computer together, then you can hire someone to do it for you, or buy a barebone one

Guess I just go tired of buying parts and building them....same as cars too now.  Remember your PC is only as fast as your slowest single component so a ssd or high rpm drive will probably give you better performance over a slower drive and a tad bit more faster processor.  Also, never shortchange on the RAMs.

i wasn't ragging on non-SSD internals, just use the SSD to speed up the OS, while the others serve as storage

330 is still a good price.

i'm still under >$50 for these:
1. silverstone (eagle) aluminum gaming case? (it's huge-- thanks twotwins)
2. Intel XTS100H cooler <-- not compatible with my set up
3. 1000w power supply
4. nvidia geforce 8800 gts oc (vid card)
5. 2 large fans and 2 smaller fans
6. dvd player/writer (from twotwins)

so a mobo ($45), cpu and ram should put me a little over 2 bills.
