TV Theme Songs
« on: June 27, 2015, 08:32:54 PM »
I didn't have cable growing up, so my main influences for music were radio and, strangely, TV theme songs.  To this day, I have the lyrics and tune of many TV theme songs memorized.  I still keep an ear out to a catchy song despite that a lot of shows don't even do a theme song anymore.  Here is my ongoing list of TV theme songs that influenced my life.  Some of these theme songs are to shows that aren't even that good.  Let's start with...

1. Spectacular Spiderman

As I was writing another thread about this show, this theme song jumps into my head.  This isn't the only Spiderman song with a catchy tune.  Can you name the other?

2. Denver the Last Dinosaur

Looking back, those lyrics are kinda creepy, but the song is catchy.

3. Dallas

I didn't watch this show, but I remember it coming on after another show that I watched.  I would sit through the intro because I enjoyed the theme song.  Years later, I would play Dallas in band.  Life is sometimes funny like that.

4.  Married with Children

Like Dallas, the show came on after another show that I watched, so I sat through the theme song.  Like Dallas, I would play this song in band as well.  I wouldn't watch the show until it was on syndication.  Funny show.  Funny theme.

5. Full House

Does anyone remember TGIF?  These days, people go out on Friday nights, but there was a time when people waited until after TGIF.  People had to get their fix of Full House.  This theme is so catchy that Green Day recycled it for one of their hits.  I was surprised to hear it, and I apparently wasn't the only one.

Here is the original.

6. The Greatest American Hero

This show was on syndication in my area.  At first, I had no idea what it was about, but it had a really catchy song.  As it turned out, it was a decent show.  Believe or not, the show was one of my earliest exposures to an origin-type story.

7. Fresh Prince of Bel Air

Everyone knows the lyrics, and there are tons of covers on You Tube.
