What Would You Do?
« on: February 22, 2024, 09:44:48 AM »
During the George Floyd controversy, Kelly Chauvin divorced her husband Derek over his involvement in Floyd's arrest that resulted in death. I believe she ended their marriage due to the public backlash that also impacted her job, home life, family.

Would you have done the same thing? What if you discovered that your spouse/bf/gf was found guilty of a crime that would garner a lot of unwanted attention, would you stay or cut them loose. The crime that they committed doesn't have anything to do with the way you two interact with each other. In fact, you two get along very well.

Recently, there was evidence that Chauvin did not cause Floyd's death and I believe he is going to appeal. If found innocent and reinstated, should Kelly reconcile with her ex-husband?

Is there anything non-related to your connection that would justify splitting from your spouse/gf/bf?

Keep in mind that on that day, Chauvin was just going to work and doing his job. Cops take a risk everyday but I'm pretty sure Chauvin had no idea that the incident would escalate as it did. Everyday, people find themselves in a situation that changes their lives and the lives of those around them forever. For example, you unintentionall y cause an accident that resulted in someone else's death and you end up going to jail. This very situation happened to Koua Fong Lee.

There is evidence that Floyd's death was not caused by Chauvin, but due to the political controversy it was ignored. Chauvin's sentencing was political.

She did the right thing.

If he comes out, he can find someone else. You can't let
her go for years without love. She knew he would be locked
up for more than three months.

This is a personal choice for folks. Some people will stay through thick or thin, better or worse (marriage vows) while others will bail out.
What would I do?  I'm not married to Derek Chauvin so can't say.  But let's say it's my husband, thru thick or thin because I'm all he's got.

Dok Chompa,

I hope the sacrifice is worth it. I've come to notice that when someone regularly mistreats you, they don't actually feel guilty or remorseful. They feel grateful that they get to be with someone who doesn't treat them the same way. But what this really does is enable them to be even worse.

I used to admire good people who stay, but now I see them as the problem. They're setting low expectations and that's why the world continues to have bad people. I understand if someone stays due to other complications. Maybe there are children involved, living standards are too high, no family or friends around, etc.

If you were 20?

Age does factor in when people make these kind of decisions. A young person might leave because they have their whole life ahead of them. But an older person might stay because they don't want to start over again. It's safer to stay with the devil they know than to risk being with the devil they don't know. People get used to the crap that they've been dealing with for years.
