My question is have you guys bought into the swimbait craze yet? I plan on using some when I get up there, to see if your guys' bass are as crazy about them as ours are.

It works up here. It's not used as much yet. Pikes on medicine lake loves it. lol

Addison,

Are you a jig guy? Cause if you aren't or haven't really used them alot...you will hate fishing with a jig in weeds from shore. A lot of people say use a jig but if you don't use jigs on a regular basis it's much easier said than done. I remember when I started using jigs (2 years ago)...I freaking hated it. All I would get is weeds and never knew what a bite on a jig felt like. It is true though, you will catch a lot bigger fish on jigs than other baits.

Anyways...is that weed coming to the top of the water or is it like 2 feet from the top etc. Is it heavy weeds? Or sparse cover? Either way...I would just throw a senko...wacky or weedless or wacky weedless...LOL

Honestly, I've tried jig-n-pig here and there with no success (shore fishing) and it's true I get mostly weeds. The weeds are actually at the bottom half of the lake mixed with some alge and thick throughout the lake.

Could you guys provide an image of your typical jig set-up?  O0

Addison, I think its important that you have the right rod setup for jigging through weed.

Here's my setups:

7' 1" Heavy action w/40lb braided power pro for jigs 5/8 - 1oz

7' 3" Med-Heavy action w/30lb braided, power pro for jigs 1/8 - 1/4oz

7ft Medium action Fast tip with a 6.2:1 spinning reel?  ???

What would you recommend?

My bro likes his jigs like this so he can swim them too...

Mine are more straight forward (jig with craws trailer):

That will work for open water and 1/8 - 1/4oz jigs but you will need more meat if you planning to fish thicker grass/weeds.

Like Blah said, MH to H. My recommendation is 7' 1" +

I don't think anyone in here wants to share their secret jigs and colors

lol mine is no secret i use only black/blue and green pumpkin jigs... no secret there... I don't really have a secret bait either..

my philosophy remains as, "80% of fishing is locating fish, the remaining 20% is presenting."

For really clear water and river, I use a custom white and yellow swim jig that my friend made for me
I also use a pumpkin swimjig, a midget penis head that jason likes to make fun of, but always produces..

It's understandable, I'm just trying to get a good idea of what to look for. Thanks for the info. Gonna have to stock up on some tackle.  O0

Bed fishing? anything goes... i think most guys here will throw senkos first.

I go to jigs when I'm fishing heavy vegetation (thick milfoil, etc).
