the rookie mistake people do is sharing their secret spot where hundreds of other people go to! ha!

but honestly, there are two types of fisherman.  one who fishes to eat, the other fishes for the sport.  you'll find that those who fish to be consumed don't care much about their rig...but when you're fishing for the sport, you'll need those high end gears to make the big bucks!

My reel is the default reel that came with the combo
Im using a 4lb line from walmart $1.79
Most of the fish we catch will weigh less than 5 lbs

Set your drag on your reel
Incase you catch a big one

Don’t fight the big fish
Tired them out
I have years of experience

DON’T BE LIKE SHONG LEE
and yell

MAY JAY LER

Calm down
And be like tom Brady
When you reach the end zone
Act like you been there

hmgRock,

Come this spring here we'll go nightfishing for cats. Lots of flatheads. Big ones, too.

Tropical style where we sit, have some beer around a fireplace and when the bell rings, we rush to the stream two cars away to reel them in.

Shrimps are best baits! But pre-made catfish baits or even squirrel entrails work just as fine.

Fun, fun, fun!

I hope you aren't like those I took fishing last time. They slept early. But each morning, they'd prefer eating and drinking by the fireplace. Two even fell off the edge of the stream when I told them to check on the poles...I had to catch all of the fish we needed.

Nawh, we didn't use pricey stuff. I just tied some strings on the shrubs and twigs on the edge of the stream and lowered some lines into the water to catch. Only took two poles with us 12.

6-lb. lines are better. You can catch big and small with it. I've caught a 39" pike with a 6-lb line and also a 32-lb buffalo with a 6-lb line.

4-lb lines break on even just white bass and some largemouths.

So true...any rod, reel, hook, 6# test can do but it's always more fun with nice gear to catch bigger fish.

My setup...

St Croix 7' avid inshore.
Shimano sustain 4000
50# Braid

Are you replacing your lines annually ???
They break down over time
Also, set your drag on your reel
And don’t force it

I catch plenty of fish on the 4lb
Plus it just feel better using a light set up

Yup. Green bass and white bass are my favorite catches. Plus, crappies and those cats and buffalo fish.

Those frogs do great work every time. Yum worms and live leeches are also equally effective.

I'm not buying any more bait or pole or hooks this year, nor in the few years to come. Well, except for live baits like leeches and minnows.  I just need find good spots.

Right: Abu Garcia and a variety of others.  I like a variety.

I have customized them, by the way. I've cut the rods about a foot or so off and re-tipped them. They are more comfortable this way and are faster in hooking the bites. Plus, fun to customize. lol

Each has been reeled accordingly for the type of fish I want to catch. Poundage, baits, hook sizes, etc. All ready to go the minute the lakes thaw out.

Can't expect too much quality from a cell phone's camera.
