What did you learn with each age milestone?

7 years old: running in the woods to a new place like Thailand opened my eyes to new things; I learned that traveling or moving to new places is a great learning thing.

All these other years after that, still the same thing: traveling makes one see new things, one becomes more intelligent.

Okay, I'm going to travel somewhere soon.

@ 5 - Playing with dirt is fun.  Wake up, play, eat, go to sleep, repeat.
@ 10 - What do you mean I can't have whatever I want?; All these rules!
@ 15 - Parents are lame, they're always nagging and are too controlling; Don't understand boys; I think I know all there is to know about life.
@ 20 - Need parents; Still don't understand boys; There are still so much I have yet to discover and learn about life; There are a lot of stuff I still need to figure out about myself.
@ 25 - Need parents; There are good guys and there are bad guys; The world is what it is; Need to live life and have fun; Family & friends are important; Should have a good job by now; Should start a family by now.
@ 30 - Love parents, need their wisdom; There are more bad guys than there are good guys; The world is crazy; Want to have fun but have responsibiliti es; Life revolves around kids and family; It's important to have a good job; Should save for the future.
@ 35 - Love parents, need their wisdom; 80% of guys are bad; The world is fricken crazy; Fun is spending time with kids/family/good friends; Gotta keep on working; Should save even more for kids' colleges and futures.
@ 40 - Should have done more stuff with parents, they are getting older; 90% of guys are bad; The world is fricken insane; I don't know nearly enough; Fun is spending time with kids/family/good friends; Either you love your job or not but too old to go back to school to start over; Counting down the years to retirement; Be smarter with saving money, only spend on essentials and on things that add value and joy to your life.
@ 50 - Wish I did this and that with parents before they got so old; 95% of guys are bad; The world is fricken going to explode; I don't know everything but I don't care anymore; Fun is spending time with family and good friends; Counting down the years to retirement; Traveling is life.
@ 60 - Not 60 yet... but I'm sure my conclusion will be that 100% of guys are bad.   ;D

My 1st grade was truncated. Gotta run from the Commies and so cut school short. We abandoned our school thatch after 3 months of enrollment.

Good thing I learned while running in the wild, things boy scouts and girl scouts would only dream about at that age. How start a fire, how to find seafoods on the run, how to take down swallows for foods--foraging in unknown places--life through experiences, survival at its earliest and best.

I want to travel some more.

You had some interesting life experiences, Reporter!  Thanks for sharing!

What kinds of traveling do you hope to do?   Road trips in America or trips around the world?  Where do you hope to go and see?

There are still so many places in America I still need to see.  After the American destinations, I want to visit England, Canada, and Mexico.

You're welcome.

I want to go to many places, not to date or find a soulmate but to explore life in a different way than that. Maybe even fish. Some places will be around the US but others outside. We'll see what I learn then.

Yes, you can learn a lot by exploring different places.  New thoughts can all of sudden enter one's mind and new perspectives about life and the world can be formed by simply going to new places and seeing new things.  Don't forget to share the things that you learn along the way as you go and explore different places.   O0

4- I was introduced to music and singing became my newest obsession. I loveeeee to sing as a little girl and I remembered singing at home/school and also with my little group of friends at the neighborhood park.

1st-5th grade- Even though I attended the same school as my cousins and friends, I didn't get the same teacher or room like them. I was always with the mekas kids because I scored higher on my reading. It really sucks though.  :( Each year, my cousins started moving away because of job opportunities for their siblings and I was the only one left by the time I was in 5th grade. I remembered my parents moved and I had to relocate to a different school and leaving my friends behind was so sad. Half way through 5th grade I was placed in a different class without Asian kids and it was very sad.

6 grade- My first and last art class that I took. I did an art project made from scrape and it was unique so it got placed in the library. I made a figure of a man in a hula hoop his and his head was made out of a empty thread holder. I had no interest in art because I feel I wasn't artistic enough so this was my last art class that I ever took until this age.

7th grade- I took a music class and I didn't enjoyed it as much as I thought I would.

8th grade- Converted from Shamanism to Christianity and I was very shy to sing or attend church because the Leaders were not well organized. I didn't know how to read Hmong in the first place so there's no way I was able to sing in Hmong and follow along.

9-12th grade- I was introduced to cooking. I started learning how to cook american food and I especially enjoyed baking. I learned my measurements and whatsoever. I also started learning how to read in Hmong. I didn't like boys but I had a crush on a neighbor. When I see him outside with our other neighbors, I would be so shy to see him or even go outside.  ;D I learned how to wear makeup and dye my own hair. I started talking to older guys when I was in junior year and those I met from online chatting. I was talking to older guys and they taught me to be wise and to act mature. I guess I should give them thanks.  ;D My senior year, I stopped talking to older guys and started talking to guys around my age. I noticed, my attitude changed and I wasn't that nice young lady a year before. I didn't go to prom because my sister didn't so no prom or high school grad night either.  :( I was talking to my first ex a few months before graduation.

19- I was living life and doing lots of things. I broke up with my first ex because I didn't want to get married. I got my license a year before and was driving my parents pick up truck. More like sneaking when they're not using it.  ;D

20- Got diagnosed with Hypothyroidism and they removed my thyroid by radiation. Started gaining weight afterward...  :( :( :(

21-33 Dated my Mexican boyfriend. Did a lot of things... Lose weight, gain weight and whatever's on my mind. Left my Mexican boyfriend after 12 years of being together in June 27 2018. A few days later in June 30th 2018, dated a Mien guy. In October, got diagnosed with depression. Was heartbroken and whatsoever...

34 years old-Still learning to take it one day at a time and a new chapter is about to begin. My future goal is to get well, healthy, lose weight and relocate to Sacramento.

I learned that you must learn to love yourself no matter how old you are. If you don't, you'll get hurt in the long run. You need to find some activities that you enjoyed doing to help relieve stress and make life more enjoyable. Still learning in the process.

Thank you for sharing, MissKhou85!  You are a sweet person and you deserve happiness.  I hope that you will find lots of happiness very soon.  I have hypothyroidism also and it's messed with my weight a lot so I can relate with the weight issue and the other problems associated with hypothyroidism .  You are a great person and you are strong!  Stay positive and be happy always!

Before 10: Need parents to survive
Between 10-20: Parent's advice is bad, parent's experiences are outdated and does not apply.  My situation is unique. Parents don't know anything about modern day culture and fads. I know everything I need to know about the world.
Between 20-30: Being parents is hard work.  Don't know how parents put up with us as kids.
Between 30-40: Darn, parents were right after afterall. I didn't know jack shiit about the world.  Kids are now rebelling like I did.  Their situations are not unique like they think, but they won't listen to advice like I didn't.  They have to learn the hard way.

1-4: don't remember much...only that I was the last kid to get pick to be on anyone's team..be it the cops and robbers game, kickball, football.

5: not going to lie, but i cried my eyes out when mamma had to sneak out of the kindergarten classoom. lols can you blame me, when you have a momma so caring and loving? lols

6-10: failed the first grade, but made up for it by acing everything the second time around. lmao other kids would say 'the reason he's so smart is because he flunk last year'. no, i don't think so, i just never really put in the effort, and plus back then not much was known about kids with a.d.d or autism or other mental disorders...lo ls  I did it for my momma, i saw the heartbreak...s he was not disappoiinted in me, but I know it was more like she refused to let anyone tell her, her son is stupid...lols

11-13---what can I say...fuuking acne problems and voice getting deeper...pubic hairs growing, and waking up wtf is this weird sticky thing down there...lmao

14-18---fuuking shit, all my Hmong friends are gangsters now...momma love me too much so imma be a good boy...lols

18-35---fuuking shit damn it, this is how the world really is??

35- til now---fuuking shit damn it....sorry momma and pops, but i don't think i ever want to start a family of my own, you guys deserve much more, but i can't come to agreement with myself that this world is worth it....

I'm not a momma's boy, just love my momma very much...lols

;D  Thanks for sharing, DaCurse!  I had the same stance too.  There were lots of "fuuking shit" and "got damn it" and "wtf is this shit" from me too!   ;D

Age 30 is the BEST age to be in, dianahmuas!   O0  You know a lot about life at this point and yet still young and able-bodied to do lots of things.  You should travel the world if you don't yet have kids!  YOLO, enjoy life and travel while you are still young and have the energy to do lots of exploring!

I'm going to go by school year since I remember that more fondly.

Kindergarten - You can make friends easily.

age 10 - You don't fit well with Hmong people.

age 15-16 - Sometimes you really don't know a person, even if you've know that friend for 10+ years.
also - heartbreaks suck.

age 18- Try to have fun. Slow down your thought process.

First Year college - You don't fit well with Hmong people.
Also first year college - don't criticize the professor, they will destroy your grade.

3rd year college - If you want to succeed, surround yourself with people who also want the same  thing.

5th year college (last year undergrad) - People especially Hmong people don't like the way you dress. who gives a shit though, be you.

--
Age 25-27 - City Living Life ain't bad. It's different, but stay open minded.

Age 28 - Stay focused, but take it slow.  Enjoy life!

So if you ask me what did I learn in my first 30 years..  Well,  I'm more americanized than I think.  Yes, kuv paub hais lus thiab sau ntawv Hmoob. Yes I listen to Hmong music, watch Hmong movies.  But my life is as american as it gets. I enjoy being in the downtown night life. I use Uber and Lyft often.  I don't go clubbing, but I do go bar hopping and sit there in the lounge sipping on a mojito or AMF.  I cosplay and roleplay.  I just don't fit in. But That's fine.  I enjoy being me.

Thanks for sharing, Anonymouse!  It's kinda weird because minus the cosplay and roleplay things and sitting in the lounge (I prefer dancing) and liking living in the city (I like country/quiet neighborhood living)... the other things were similar to me as well.  I also deserved an A+ in one of my classes but I disagreed with the professor on some things and he marked down my grade to an A-... that really opened my eyes to how sometimes your grade can be determined by a professor's "feelings" toward you and not necessarily on the work you've done for the class.  When I asked him why he gave me that grade he said he didn't like that I openly challenged him in the classroom... what the hell... I thought we were having an open discussion and sharing different thoughts and ideas... I didn't know we had to agree with whatever he said.  It was a political science class.

This must be some kind of a psychedelic, psychoanalytic al, pseudoscience, psychology test of some sort.

Let me tell you what may happen to those who are able to make and chart a timeline of their own life.

Ok, so here is the time line to your life so far.  You will either say, fawk, I wasted my life by doing not enough or nothing at all.  You can also say cot dayam it, I blew it here and here and here.

This will lead to depression..

so my suggestion is not to do it while you are still not at the retirement age.  Old people have no problem talking about the past.  When you are still working for the future, try not to talk about the past.  You will have your retirement days to reflect back.

Reference:  Rose from titanic and Captain America from avenger.  After the store is told, no sense of closure for them.   :2funny:

The difference between an A and A- is the person who got the B.

First off, don't feel entitled.  Take what is given to you.

Even if you have gotten an A+, you will still be the same lily and nothing much will change.   Like seriously, crying over an A+ vs an A- while joe there trying to get a C to pass instead, he had to take the course again with the D grade.   :2funny:

Did you not say this?

"I also deserved an A+ in one of my classes but I disagreed"

You deserved but did not get what you deserved so you are crying over it.  Make sure you add that to your biography story of your life.   Oh and make sure you add today's date and talking to me too.  Share our story when you get old.

You're not making any sense today.  Are you saying if a person has lived an interesting life with little regrets they don't need to ponder on what they've learned through the years?  Oh, forget it... don't answer.

Even Jesus christ did not have a perfect life or timeline.

No one's life is all that great.  Why?  Cuz of the word, "it could of been better"

oh forget it.  Too deep and meaningful for you  :2funny:

If you read the entire thing you'll see the context of what I said.  I said "I also deserved an A+ in one of my classes but I disagreed with the professor on some things and he marked down my grade to an A-... that really opened my eyes to how sometimes your grade can be determined by a professor's "feelings" toward you and not necessarily on the work you've done for the class."

Are you bored today, troublemaker?  Or are you trying to draw me in so we can entertain PH people?  :P  My break is over so I need to get off PH.  Maybe I'll come back later to waste time with you.  But start a new thread for us to mess around in, k... not in this thread.  Thanks.   O0

Lesson from a milestone:  I learn that I don't like to be alone in life and love is important.

 ;D

I'm serious... my family is not a potato family. We grew up eating rice and now it's brown rice. Some days no rice at all.

By the way, Alton Brown's baked potato recipe is pretty good. Crispy, salty skin ftw!

Mmm, that does sound delicious!  I love my baked potatoes with butter and sour cream.   O0

Dok_Champa, O0.   When did you realize each of those things, btw?  I learned "I didn't like to be alone in life" when I was 8 years old and I learned "love is important" when I was 10 years old.   :)

Anonymouse and lilly

I had that same naive smart mouth growing up.  Unlike you two who did so in college. I actually did so sooo much earlier in life around age 12 and that actually repeated itself multiple times going forward through college.  I actually received and F in high school in Probability Statistics class, when I was scoring the highest grade in class.  It was a last day the teacher decided to give me my real grade, he said.  Something about cheating cuz no one has ever scored so well in his class in 30+ years or something.  Actually it was a challenge he made about who can solve the problem can be teacher.  I did so and he was mad about it since...

Oh wow!  That teacher was certainly a bitter and immature jackass.  Did you storm into the principal's office and demanded that righting be made to your grade?  Did your grade get corrected or did you just accept the F?  I would have been furious.

I just took it as it is...I had never gotten an F before.  The teacher told me to do make up work...but it's like, I've already earned it...why punish me more?  It's an accusation of cheating...yet no real proof.  I wasn't going to do extra work,,,just because I've been sleeping in class most of the time.  He just didn't see the effort.  He only saw the results.
