Speaking of "midwest fences", unlike the FAKE "no fence" one that "don't get out much" (per the neutral PH members), these "legit" ones understand the FACT that some homes have fence, and some don't like in other areas so here's what they have to say about the their "midwest fences":

I live in the Midwest and I have them... It's for privacy and keeping strays out. My fence starts at the back of my house and enclosed my whole backyard.

As a Wisconsin native currently living in Texas I find the opposite weird. Every backyard has an 8-10 foot fence/wall around it like it's its own tiny fiefdom, which is a little less weird when you consider how close together most of the houses are here

A large part of the world doesn’t use fences. Not sure where you’re from, but I think it’s partly cultural; some places see it as a necessary part of privacy, and some places see it as snooty stuck-up paranoia.

I’ve seen a lot of fences in Texas, Oklahoma, and Florida, but in New England you won’t see them often.

If you put a fence up in New England it’s like saying “I don’t trust or like my neighbors, and think you’re all robbers!”

“Gated communities” are talked about like a symptom of racism and classism, and generally Not Something We Do
