Is it considered stealing if you are married?
« on: March 30, 2022, 09:25:40 AM »
Knew a couple .. husband had 35k from a death benefit of one of his parents. He married his wife and two years later she took out 35k from their saving and he had no idea until a month later. He confronts her and she said she used it to pay for her student loan.

Is it considered stealing? They are still married. She also lie she was making so much money when she wasn’t. He found that out too during this whole thing.

No but they have some issues they have to it work out.  Her loan is his loan and his loan is her loan so that 35k went into their debt.  Debt is gone, that's a good thing.

At least half of that is hers.

Then the rest is his, which belongs to her also.

I get that what’s his is hers but to me it’s pretty shady for a spouse to spend that money without even telling you about it. That should have been a decision you make together. Plus she lied about how much she was making, and lied that she didn’t have  any student loan to begin with. Buti think the  reason she did that was because their marriage was on the rock and she figure she takes that money n pay her student loan so if they divorced she won’t have to carry that loan. They were not legally married at the time when all this happen.

A bad trait to have in a spouse, who knows what other things she have done behind his back. Money or property before marriage isn’t communal from my understanding. She’s a classic gold digger!

Sometimes people do stupid things and this is one of them.  But if you look at the bigger picture, her debt is also his since they are a couple/married.  Debt is gone so that's a good thing, right?  She didn't use the money for gambling, or something else...

AND no, she's not an opportunist but rather made a poor decision.  Don't we all made poor decisions from time to time?  Even among couples...  This is why people work thru things and do better.

How are you going to pay her student loan with no job? Thought you claimed your wife makes good money being a nurse and you wear the aprons in the kitchen? Time has changed?
